Design Assurance Specialist - Consultant role based in Derby, 12 month plus contract, £neg £350 to £650 per day ( dep on exp)

Working with one of the region’s largest employers who are now embarking on the busiest and most successful periods in their long history. You will help deliver some of the most technically advanced vehicles of their type, all designed developed and manufactured in Derby.

The primary purpose of this role is to undertake design assurance activities on Projects, Bids and R&D such that the product:

• Fully meets customer requirements,
• is demonstrably compliant with contractual and legal requirements
• gains necessary authorization to operate in passenger service.

The role is to ensure that the vehicle design is valid and verified and is demonstrated as such to achieve acceptance by RS1’s client.
Development of vehicle requirements based on contractual and tender documentation, the companies legal obligations, the companies Policies and Procedures.
Liaison with the engineering team to determine and develop vehicle concepts for complying with the vehicle requirements.
Cascading of requirements and verification activities to systems within the train (through RM tools such as DOORs).
Liaison with system engineers and suppliers to determine and develop system concepts for complying with the system requirements.

Production of selected system analyses and review of system requirements verification evidence and production of vehicle requirement compliance evidence.

At an overall level, the Design Assurance Engineer is responsible for assessing and demonstrating the products compliance and conformance (including testing) to key requirements. The impact of an error is:

• Large delays in the acceptance and delivery of the product.
• Extensive and costly modifications to built products.
• Product Liability Claims on either under Civil or Criminal Law in the event of an accident occurring.

More specifically, the Design Assurance Engineer is required to make informed decisions on the design of products as part of the business Design Review Process.

Key interfaces include European and national approval bodies, customers, suppliers, consultants, engineering institutions and professional bodies.

It is expected that you would be qualified to degree level in engineering related discipline and ideally chartered. Also have a good working knowledge and interest in system engineering (e.g. ‘V’ life cycle), vehicle design, interoperability, regulations/application of standards, requirements management and engineering risk management.
