As part of a multidisciplinary team the post holder will have responsibility of organising and allocating work for members within the Projects Engineering department. Paying particular attention to the role of the Projects Engineering department within the company as a whole and providing support where most relevant. The post holder will primarily be providing guidance to members within the team on the design and engineering of individual components, along with the quality, reliability and performance of fully assembled outgoing products. In addition to this, they will be required to ensure that all Sales Order documentation for the customers, suppliers and internal use have been technically reviewed and are available to the relevant people.



Investigate equipment, product problems or failures, both during testing, assembly or during use, and design and implement solutions.

Contract Processing

Generation of CAD models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, arrangement drawings, parts lists, specifications, and contract documentation from point of handover from sales/commercial to provide ordering information to purchasing/manufacturing.

Complete peer review of technical documentation and designs.

Design safe, compliant, and cost-effective equipment to fulfil the customer’s requirements, offering a technical review of the necessary documentation and drawings for its manufacture.

Consider DFM and support manufacturing, sales and purchasing in bespoke queries and process improvements as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Visit customers both in the UK and overseas for the purpose of technical and warranty support.

Quality Assurance

Logically approach and resolve customer returns/issues and document accurately.

Make technical decisions for on-site services/returns/refurbishments/warranty namely customer issues and customer support.

Use quality procedures (including ECR/ECN/Concessions/Non-Conformances), to document and implement quality and performance improvements.

Assist quality engineer(s) to assure that relevant issues/concerns can be closed out in a timely


Ensure products comply with relevant technical standards/directives - ATEX/PED/Machinery etc.

Able to write and amend technical files for compliance.

Able to conduct relevant test reports and highlighting relevant customer considerations within the specification or user manual.

R&D Contract Work / Testing (occasional)

Investigate equipment, product problems or failures, both during testing or during use, and design and implement solutions.

Generate, develop, and test product improvements and new product designs through from concept to final output, including the generation of all documentation; drawings, process changes, supporting other departments to implement the change.

Conduct and devise testing protocols on new and existing equipment/processes.

Produce clear, detailed and logical test reports, for both internal and external distribution.

Perform/arrange for third party risk assessments, where appropriate, for any non-standard testing activities.

Provide intuitive design resolutions to bespoke requirements.


Provide customer support during contract processing and with after sales queries and problems.

Provide colleagues with support during contract processing and after sales queries and problems.

Provide updates and communicate effectively at management and operations reviews, as well as with engineering, commercial, sales, manufacturing and suppliers.

Provide clear and informative information for both suppliers and customers when representing the company.

Participate in team/management/operations meetings

Resolves issues in a timely fashion.

Effective listening and interpersonal skills.


Driven and capable of working independently whilst being able to support and take recommendations/discussions constructively utilising skills and support from colleagues.

High attention to detail – able to complete final review of colleague’s technical documentation (GA’s, purchasing specifications, part drawings ensuring that relevant information for customer/supplier/manufacture is available).

An integral member in providing quality products for the company to supply to market.

Design with the most suitable trade-off between component performance, machinability and cost.

Capable of working to deadlines, considering and prioritising own and teams, short and long term goals accordingly, providing regular feedback to managers to ensure deadlines are met.

Ability to work effectively within a team and work using his/her own initiative.

A strong understanding of engineering principles and 3+ years experience of mechanical design.

A strong understanding of CAD modelling – Part/assembly models including use of configurations, part drawings, assembly drawings (with BOM), GA drawings.

A strong understanding of geometric tolerancing and able to use these on part drawings to ensure a high quality of product is produced.

Strong problem solving and fault finding skills.

Can suitably represent the company when on external training courses or off-site with customers and suppliers.


Experience of working in multi-disciplined Engineering environment.

Use of MRP software (Winman).
