Consultant – Care of the Elderly with a sub speciality in Interface Geriatrics – London

Indigo Healthcare are looking for an innovative, compassionate Care of the Elderly Consultant to really make a difference in the geriatric department for a brilliant Trust just half an hour out of London. The Trust has just had a £150 billion investment in major new facilities.

The perfect candidate for this role would be someone who is forward thinking, has a broad range of experience in medicine, geriatric in particular, and is able to expertly identify illnesses in the early stages and have an expert diagnostic opinion.

You’ll join 8 WTE consultants and their junior teams on a 10 PA basis

Main Duties:

- To provide medical care for patients on the Frailty Unit
- To provide Comprehensive Geriatric assessment for older patients who have been identified through Frailty Pathways.
- To provide Consultant led leadership and clinical support within the community services /Integrated Healthcare teams.
- To contribute to the management of the clinical service and work closely with the commissioning groups to further develop services. To work across the primary, community and secondary care interface and be responsive to patient’s needs.
- Is dynamic, proactive and take leadership for strategic development of services
- Is able to work across primary and secondary care and able to develop education for different healthcare teams.
- Proactively work with secondary care to improve patient pathways and reduce unnecessary admissions and reduce length of stay.
- Provide medical advice to colleagues in primary care.
- Support multidisciplinary teams and care homes in admission prevention
- Provide support and education to specialist nurses working in the service
- To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
- To contribute to clinical effectiveness and quality (audit/governance) and Research and Development activities relating to the speciality.

Essential Criteria:

- GMC registration, specialist registration is desirable
- MRCP or equivalent
- Tier 2 visa sponsorship is available
- Able to relocate in 1-3 months
- Excellent English skills
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
- Ability to teach clinical skills
- Experience of Audit

The pay scale will be within the NHS guidelines at Consultant level £76,761 - £103,490 which will be dependent on years of experience.
