Job title – Maintenance Engineer

Location – Bedford

Salary - £34,000

Shifts – Monday to Friday days (08:00-16:00) & nights (17:00-02:00), working on the following pattern.

5-week rotation - Days/Nights/Days/Nights/Days - every 5th week will start a 2-week period of days.

My client, giants in the parcel distribution industry are looking for two multiskilled maintenance engineers to join their team in the Bedford area. Established well over 40 years ago, my client has developed from being a small courier service headed up out of a small office in America into a well-recognised global organisation operating at a revenue of $60Billion. Seen as a specialist business to business courier service my client delivers through air mail, freight and the traditional trade network services, they are a stable acquisitional organisation and have recently spent north of £3billion acquiring one of their closest competitors.

About you

As a maintenance engineer you will be truly multiskilled and have the following;

  • Be truly multiskilled with a good knowledge of both electrical and mechanical components
  • City and guilds 17th edition electrical (Minimum)
  • Ability to fault find on automated equipment including conveyors and sortation equipment
  • Experience working on 3 phase equipment up to 415v
  • As there is chance for progression it would be beneficial to be aspirational
  • Have experience completing both reactive and planned maintenance

About the role

The daily responsibilities for this role are forever changing and require maintenance engineers to be flexible and adapt to change, however are usually split into completing preventive maintenance and reacting to breakdowns.

Preventive maintenance (50%) – Lubrication of components, checking for wear and tear, belt changes, roller changes, component tightening, inspecting of sortation equipment.

Reactive maintenance (40%) – Repairing shoe sorters, changing conveyor belts that are broken, realigning sensors, resetting tripped motors, rewiring of electrical component.

This role will also include report writing, adhering with health and safety, working with continuous improvement in mind and helping with installation of automated equipment, including sortation machines, belt conveyors, chain conveyors, roller conveyors and specialist plc equipment.
