Corporate Tax Manager – Preston £40k-£44k

Reporting to the Head of Tax to provide financial and tax services in the areas of corporate tax planning and compliance including liaison with Corporate, Area and Divisional teams, external advisors, senior management and HM Revenue and Customs


·To manage the tax and financial information requirements of internal and external customers (e.g. preparation, review and submission of statutory returns to HM Revenue and Customs and internal financial reporting requirements)

·Management of all corporate tax statutory compliance issues, returns and computations (including management of statutory inspection visits by HM Revenue and Customs).

·Prepare/review the Group consolidated corporation tax and deferred tax provisions for the year end position, or at any other point as required.

·Overseeing the finalisation of the Group’s corporation tax returns and computations and returns for all group companies in readiness for submission to HM Revenue & Customs.

·Provide advice across the organisation on all aspects of UK tax Legislation including summarizing new legislation, preparation of reports following analysis of UK Government updates and preparation of briefing notes and bulletins to appropriate management.

·To assist in the development and implementation of innovative tax planning strategies and assist in implementing tax efficient schemes leading to significant cost savings to the Group.To take the lead in developing and implementing such strategies on certain occasions.

·Prepare and deliver the Group’s responses to consultation documentation issued by the tax authorities.

·Develop and manage the in-house tax consultancy service, provide advice on capital development projects and improve technical expertise by identifying relevant training courses.

·Prepare tax information and supplementary notes for inclusion within the Group’s financial statements and management reporting and business / financial plans.

·To manage the process by which the Group complies with Senior Accounting Officer requirements.

·To contribute in the professional and technical development of other members of the tax team with particular emphasis on the Assistant Tax Accountant(s).

·To develop skills in other areas of tax would be encouraged, notably VAT and Stamp Duty Land Tax.

To contribute towards raising the profile of Places for People in the Social Housing, Real Estate and leisure sectorsSkills/Knowledge/Experience


·Preferably CTA or ACA qualified and a relevant degree (for example, Accountancy) or working towards the relevant professional qualification.Alternatively, HMRC training combined with the relevant post HMRC experience in practice or in industry, will also be considered.

·Alternative qualifications would be considered if supported by sufficient relevant experience.


·Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written communication.

·An ability to deliver presentations to a wide and diverse audience is required in a manner that provides an understanding of tax issues to non-tax and non-financial individuals.


·Up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and practice in relation to tax on land and property and particularly in the Social Housing sector is preferable but is not a strict requirement.

·A knowledge of property development processes within both Registered Social Landlords and private rented/for sale sectors.


·At least 6 years tax experience working in either practice or in industry.

·Experience in dealing with land and property is desirable.

·Experience in the Social Housing sector is preferred although is not essential.

·Experience of working in commercial sectors other than those of land and Social Housing.

·Working within a team

Salary £40k - £44k dependant on experience
