UX/UI Consultant (Mobile Design)

Location: Edinburgh

Duration: 6 Months

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for people who can help us create our Design System. We are currently embarking on our journey of creating a Design System for use across the organisation, bringing design, UX and development together and enabling rapid iteration cycles building our apps while innovating at pace. We are looking for people who want to work in cross-functional teams; who want to help others learn how to build great web apps and why they're valuable; people with a grasp of a variety of technologies, practices and methodologies, along with their pros and cons.

  • Do you know what a great app looks like and how it should behave?
  • Do you have experience in Mobile UI design?
  • Do you not only like to ensure the UX of an app is great but actively participate in writing HTML & CSS for it?
  • Do you enjoy building your wireframes into real apps and seeing them fully working on a screen?

What you'll do:

  • If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
  • Create reusable components and patterns for use across numerous application teams.
  • Liaise with brand, design and development to ensure UX patterns are consistent and accessible, while still allowing rapid experimentation and prototyping.
  • Build real solutions through experimentation as part of a multi-faceted team. Explore and evaluate up-and-coming technologies and software solutions.
  • Educate feature teams and stakeholders and advise on good practices and ways of working.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience we're after:

  • An ability to focus on customer needs and behaviours to craft compelling solutions.
  • A passion and talent for UX/UI using a variety of tools and techniques not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud, Invision, Sketch, Brand.ai.
  • Good HTML & CSS skills and an understanding of modern JavaScript for building single page applications and modern websites.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and testing.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A desire to learn and keep up with new technologies that transcends current crazes and trendy tools or frameworks.
  • Experience of working with visual designers and developers to jointly craft UIs that are both exciting and fit for purpose.
  • Experience with agile methods.
  • An understanding of modern web application building environments and the concepts behind DevOps and automation.
