Siemens Mobility, Intelligent Traffic Systems designs, markets, manufactures, installs and maintain a wide portfolio of traffic management products internationally and is the UK market leader in the traffic signal business. This includes intersection and pedestrian traffic controllers, intelligent urban traffic control systems, variable message signs, public transport and car park guidance systems to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow in congested urban and inter-urban areas.

What are my responsibilties?

- Actively read and review requirements, creating written comments & attending reviews
- Actively read and review High Level Designs providing written comments. Attend reviews when invited
- Author system test specification, arranging review and submit to Lead Test Engineer for approval
- Set up and maintain version controlled test environments
- Execute tests
- Complete fault reports with constructive feedback for developers
- Produce progress reports detailing test metrics as required by the Lead Test Engineer
- To provide expertise on formal testing techniques
- To provide technical support and advice to other project members
- Any other reasonable duties as requested
- To follow Company processes and procedures

Major Tasks

- Test the product release as needed to support the target release schedule
- Debug errors found during test execution and produce complete defect packages in support of development
- Author test scripts (manual & automated), ready for functional and/or system testing
- Analyze formal test results in order to discover, document and regress defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws
- Communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management

What do I need to qualify for this job?

- Practical test experience testing HTTP / web applications (essential)
- Practical test experience using MYSQL (essential)
- Practical test experience JEE, Java and C/C++ based components in both Linux/Windows environments (essential)
- Practical experience setting up / performing testing on complex test platforms, using automated test tools (essential)
- Practical experience and strong knowledge of testing methodologies, especially 'AGILE' (essential)
- Previous experience using AWS infrastructure (essential)
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems & file systems (essential)
- Strong debugging and problem solving skills (essential)
- Understanding technical specifications (essential)
- Good verbal, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills (essential)
- You work well within a team environment, capable of supporting your peers by actively doing your part (essential)
- Understands project milestones and impact of own work on their achievement (essential)
- Understands importance of their level of utilisation and their ability to influence the financial success of projects they are working on (essential)
- Previous experiencetesting withSilverlight applications
- Previous experience working cross-team in support of multiple releases.
- Previous experience defining and improving test processes
- Author test plans / strategies, ready for functional and/or system testing

Technical Knowledge and understanding

- 'Hands on' technical experience
- Fully competent in own skill area. Able to apply knowledge and skills to solve both routine and non- routine problems
- Either, has good understanding on several products/systems or technical skills areas and therefore can be easily and flexibly utilised, oris beginning to act as technical authority in a particular product/ system and technical skill area

Problem solving skills

- Will be asked to assist in the solving of complex technical issues as an individual or as part of a team or group
- Identifies problems early or anticipates problems occurring. Identifies key issues and patterns from partial or conflicting data. Able to make a sound decision based on this analysis

Communication skills

- Must be able to develop good working relationships inside Siemens Traffic. Typically this will involve keeping other staff informed of factual information in a timely and accurate fashion
- Will need to persuade or influence others on issues such as changing processes or technical issues
- Will occasionally be required to make formal and informal presentations to peers and Engineering Managers
- Regularly keeps Lead Engineer advised of progress
- Asks sensible questions in good time in one to one and group situations and also able to constructively challenge and probe information, presenting alternative approaches
- Can recognise and deal with conflict situations in a constructive way, persuading others to attain consensus

Customer Relationship Skills

- Will be expected to provide a source of technical support to customers for a complete system
- Responds appropriately to standard customer requests and regularly anticipates customer needs
- Prioritises time to ensure elements of the solution with most impact on the customer are focused on. Does not sacrifice timescales for quality of the system or product
- Confidently probes, assesses and interprets unclear customer requirements and priorities

Communication skills

- You will be proficient in the communication and presentation of complex technical issues. You will be required to chair cross-functional meetings with your team
- You must be able to develop good working relationships with all departments and functions of the business. There will, from time to time, be complex cross-functional issues to deal with, so an ability to listen and facilitate solutions is required
- You will occasionally be required to make formal presentations to customers, peers and engineering managers
- You will demonstrate the ability to ask probing questions to ensure a complete picture on project progress is obtained and necessary actions are taken

Knowledge of IT

- Will require a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office elements including Word, Excel and Outlook

Planning and objective setting

- Has greater level of input to own targets. May develop plans for specific work activities/ projects or occasional planning of work for others. Organises own time, targets mostly within a medium time frame or progress is reviewed within a medium time frame (e.g.1 month)

Financial aware ness

- Understands project milestones and impact of own work on their achievement. Understands importance of their level of utilisation and their ability to influence the financial success of projects they are working on
- Has a greater understanding of key business drivers and metrics. Uses this understanding to steer own decisions. Works to control costs and financial performance of project by influencing and guiding other project members to achieve milestones

The Siemens Mobility Division with approximately 3,500 employees, focuses on sustainable technologies for metropolitan areas and their infrastructures. Its offering includes products, systems and solutions for intelligent traffic management, rail-bound transportation, smart grids, energy efficient buildings, and safety and security. The Division comprises the divisions Rail Systems, Rail Automation, Intelligent Traffic Systems, and Rail Electrification.
