Mechanical Design Engineer- Advanced Electronic Products
Location: Cheshire
£30,000- £40,000 DOE + Bonus + Benefits + Flexi Working
Permanent Position

I'm seeking a Mechanical Design & Development Engineer to join a growing and ambitious business that develop advanced electro-mechanical products for harsh environments.

Working within a multi-discipline R&D team you will be responsible for providing functional leadership across the company's mechanical design activities. The company have a number of new projects in the pipeline, so your focus will be on NPD and will see you involved in every stage of the development lifecycle encompassing conceptualisation, design, development, assembly, testing, certification and manufacture through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Functional Leadership across the Company's mechanical design activities
  • Co-ordinate and plan Mechanical Design activities alongside the electronics, software, hardware, integration and test teams
  • The production of 3D detailed design and 2D manufacturing drawings
  • Full lifecycle design and development for NPD projects
  • Assist and advise on the specification of materials and components
  • Ensure compliance with stringent design requirements in relation to environmental and EMC performance
  • Compile tests and verification procedures
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and manufacturing partners
  • Produce build instructions, BoM's, test plans & product manuals
  • Verify all mechanical design outputs

Experience and Background Required:

  • A high profile Mechanical Engineer with at least 3 years experience and a good track record in the design and development of electro-mechanical products
  • Proficient user of 3D CAD (ideally Solidworks) for the creation of 3D detailed designs and 2D manufacturing drawings
  • Experience packaging complex electronic assembles
  • Knowledge of ingress protection, EMC compliance, heat transfer and vibration protection
  • Experience designing injection moulded enclosures for mass production
  • Strong knowledge of injection mould tooling
  • Knowledge of other manufacturing processes and tooling i.e. die casting and machined parts
  • Experience managing relationships with internal & external manufacturing, tooling teams and suppliers
  • Experience of clearance and fits and tolerance analysis
  • Experience testing and certifying products
  • Knowledge of ATEX or IECEx regulations is highly desirable
  • Experience of basic FEA analysis desirable
  • Experience developing ruggedized products utilised in harsh or hazardous environments is desirable

Qualification Requirements

  • A degree, HNC/ HND in mechanical/ product design engineering or similar
