Network and Security Consultant
GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL
Network and Security Consultant
BACKGROUND TO THE ROLES
Since April 2013 Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has outsourced its Network, Security and Collaboration services to a Cisco Gold partner. This has also been backed up by Cisco hardware support provided through the Cisco Channel Partner Program. GOSH has now taken the decision to bring these services in-house at the completion of the current managed service contract on March 31st 2018. As a result GOSH is now looking to put together a new in-house team of dedicated and motivated network and security professionals capable of delivering the highest levels of service and support to the trust. Innovation is key to the Trust’s strategic goals and plans include significant investment in Cyber security including advanced system management and a programme of network hardware refresh.
The trust’s network uses Cisco technologies for its network and security infrastructure. The team will support 72 comms rooms and 4 data centres connected using structured SM & MM fibre and cat 5e/6a cabling. The network is highly segmented with Nexus switching at its core and a combination of IOS and IOS-XE based access switches. HP Aruba delivers wireless connectivity and cisco anyconnect, remote connectivity to the trust’s 5000 users and suppliers. Multi context firewalls provide perimeter protection for 3 points of ingress/egress (N3, JaNET & LFGL) but we have a number of Metro Ethernet and ADSL connections. The team uses Solarwinds Orion to manage network configuration and monitoring.
We are looking for 2 motivated IT Network and Security Consultants with a good understanding of networks and security. This is an ideal role if you are interested in further developing your existing skills in ICT networking and security and your career development will be supported by a structured training plan and support of the ICT team.
This is a very hands on role and you should hold a current CCNA as a minimum and be working toward or hold a CCNP certificate. You must have advanced skills supporting and deploying Cisco networking in a highly available environment, and have knowledge of the following technologies: Security, VOIP, QoS, Wireless, Routing & Switching.
This position demands a team player who is self-motivated with excellent communication and organisational skills, to provide a consistent high quality of IT service. You will help mentor the engineers in the team and will be required to work under your own initiative and liaise with other 3rd Line colleagues and management. You must have good time management skills to enable you to meet our business as usual KPIs and balance this with assisting project implementation and troubleshooting. You will be expected to show, and maintain, a high level of advanced technical knowledge. You will be expected to participate in an on call rota.
The IT Network team is very hands on and is responsible for all of the trust’s data, security and voice networks. We manage the networks day to day; troubleshoot and resolve issues; and plan, deploy and project manage network upgrades and the installation of new networks. Our work ranges from the simple (creating VLANs and assigning them to interfaces, replacing a faulty GBIC, and remote access setup and troubleshooting) to the highly complex, such as, designing and deploying new switching and security technologies, troubleshooting site to site and remote access VPNs, and deploying a wireless infrastructure using 802.1x authentication.
A key element of this role is the regular rotation through all aspects of the work undertaken by the team, playing an active part in the delivery of BAU support services, Continual Service Improvement programme, Project work and Cyber security monitoring and remediation activities. In order to deliver these services you will be expected to continually develop your knowledge of ALL aspects of the services delivered by the team and you will be supported with regular training to enable you to be comfortable in each of these roles.
