Linux Systems Administrator, Linux Systems Engineer, Linux Engineer - Linux, Docker, LDAP, Ansible, Kickstart, Hadoop, Jenkins, Hyper-V - Taunton, Somerset - Up to £35K

Tank Recruitment are currently looking for a Linux Systems Administrator for a client or ours based in Taunton.

The successful candidate will work with the Technical Systems team and the Senior Linux System Administrator to implement elements of the defined strategic roadmap for Linux and related systems.

The successful candidate will have specific responsibility to support the development of the Core Data Platform which is being developed as a fundamental component of realising our vision. The Core Data Platform is being built on a Hadoop technology stack including HDFS, Spark, HBase, Hive etc. for data storage and processing.

The purpose of this job is to ensure that Core Data Platform system deployments, and associated infrastructure and environments (including development, test and production environments), conform to quality assurance, security, architectural and system-specific requirements, and meet agreed measures for availability and performance, as well as adhering to the technical strategy.

Essential and Desirable Skills

  • At least 3 years' experience of administering, building and configuring Linux servers.

  • Experience of working in an agile team environment

  • Good written and oral communication skills to produce reports and give presentations at team and divisional level, setting out information in a concise and logical manner

  • Planning and organisational skills to effectively deliver requirements

  • Wide technical experience of wide variety of server and storage technologies at an architecture, design and technical expert level

  • Good knowledge of IT security best practice, with particular emphasis on MoD standards and accreditation process

  • Experience of providing quality / technical assurance within complex projects> Experience of continuous integration and continuous delivery within an agile development team

  • Experience of administering network security including configuring firewalls, Kerberos and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)

  • Experience of administering a Hadoop cluster

  • Experience of administering containerised applications using Docker

  • Experience with Spacewalk, Kickstart and PXE Boot

  • Experience of Microsoft Hyper-V

  • Experience of version control using Git

  • Proficiency in the use of Ansible as an infrastructure automation tool

  • Experience with the Jenkins Continuous Integration build server
