Finance Director Procurement & Category

Purpose Statement

The Finance Director is the key business support to both the UK Procurement Director and the UK Category Director, this is a high profile role and key to its delivery is the ability to balance technical capability with strategic awareness, commerciality, communication and leadership

Role requirement:

To be an active member of the Procurement & Category management team to drive operating profit Managing financial support, expertise and rigour around the divisions performance including all regulatory compliance with a clear sense of what drives profit and cash. Producing and sharing of fact based insight to allow the business exploit growth opportunities and take well balanced calculated risks whilst ensuring the accounting fundamentals are delivered.
To be a leader across the Commercial Finance team and beyond, with the ability to build loyalty, yet at the same time an ability to challenge, with absolute honesty and integrity.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

- Support and challenge the procurement & category leadership teams in the formulation and delivery of plans and financial targets for buying margin
- Provide the procurement teams with sound financial analysis and guidance in order to grow their business profitably
- Collate, prepare and interpret reports, budgets, accounts, board presentations, commentaries and financial statements. Ensuring timely insight is provided for corrective action as necessary
- Responsible for the P&L, Balance sheet
- Control and recognition of income, cash flow and expenditure
- Strike the balance between profitability and financial rigour
- Undertake strategic analysis to feed into the long term financial plan
- Attend meetings with suppliers as necessary
- Develop, build and manage financial systems/models (e.g. SAP, BW)
- Carry out business modelling and risk assessments
- Draw causal effects of economic data on results and forecasts
- Supervise and develop the Commercial Finance team
- Undertake cross functional work across Brakes
- Support ad-hoc projects such as launch pilots

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

- Qualified with several years PQE (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
- The candidate should have previous experience of working in a fast paced commercial environment
- Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Personal integrity and obvious gravitas
- Strong relationship builder
- Analytical thinking
- Strong Influencing skills
- Strong communication skills
- Enthusiastic with a can do attitude


- SAP / BW experience
- Project Management experience
- Working within a procurement finance environment
