An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Systems Engineer at Leonardo Edinburgh to join the Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business. This role involves working within the Infra-Red Countermeasures (IRCM) domain, with specific responsibilities of leading problem investigations, driving down Defects Per Unit (DPU) supporting reliability investigations and providing engineering support to production.
The successful applicant will lead the investigation into problems uncovered during production and from customer reporting on fielded systems. This will involve all aspects of investigation from planning through root cause identification and corrective action resolution. In doing so, focus will be given to DPU reduction and improved product reliability. This will not be done in isolation, but through leading a small team working in conjunction with multiple engineering discipline groups.
Key Responsibility Areas
This role requires the provision of expert Systems Engineering knowledge and experience preferably in the domain of Electro-Optics (EO) and IRCM.
The successful applicant will lead investigations into particular issues that are identified as important in driving down Production DPU, interfacing with other engineering disciplines, Manufacturing & Supply Chain, Procurement and Quality Assurance as necessary. Issues to be investigated will be agreed/defined by the Project Engineering Lead (PEL).
To assist the Reliability Lead in pursuing reliability investigations, including testing at sub-system level and pursuing of issues with supply chain and test personnel such as PAG. Supporting telecons with the customer and writing presentation material and engineering notes in support of customer discussions also forms part of the role. The successful applicant will also deputise for the Reliability Lead as required.
To support IRCM Production as required, especially when there are issues preventing deliveries requiring simultaneous systems engineering support.
The successful candidate is required to be experienced in structured problem solving, an enthusiastic supporter of the goals of reducing Production DPU and preventing/reducing failures in the field by personally identifying with these objectives alongside the PEL, the Reliability Lead and the IRCM Production Lead.
Good reporting and setting of daily objectives is essential. This is a key and challenging role which provides an opportunity to excel in a high profile Programme.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
The candidate should hold degree in an appropriate Scientific, Engineering or Technical subject.
A systematic and tenacious approach to problem solving is absolutely essential. The successful candidate must have a very high degree of interpersonal skills and the ability to present reasoned arguments in a robust and professional fashion. Organisational skills along with the flexibility to deal with the constant change that characterises the development of complex systems is absolutely essential.
