Technical Sales Engineer
Piper Recruitment, acting on behalf of a large hydraulic engineering company based in Wiltshire, has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Sales Engineer.
The company supplies products and equipment for a diverse range of interesting projects in various sectors including Offshore, Renewable Energy, Metal Production, Military and Civil Engineering.
Salary/Package: c30k + pension, company car and performance related bonus.
The companies Hydraulic cylinders have a high degree of mechanical input into their design and application, therefore a Mechanical Engineering qualification to Degree / HND level is required, as without a basic mechanical engineering background with a sound understanding of engineering principles and materials it would not be possible to discuss at the technical level required, as you will often be dealing with the Engineers before you deal with the Buyers.
Some hydraulic engineering knowledge will be beneficial but it is not as essential.
Sales & Product Training will be given, as required.
Engineering Graduates with some relevant basic hydraulics experience will be considered
The successful Technical Sales Engineer will:
- Need to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with clients at all levels of seniority, both technically & commercially.
- Be a confident self-starter, able to operate on their own initiative, organising their working day in an efficient and structured manner. Good reporting skills will be required.
The Technical Sales Engineer will be required to travel throughout the UK, maintaining & developing existing clients and seeking potential new clients. In addition, regular visit to partners in Europe will be a requirement of the position.
The company’s core products include; bespoke hydraulic cylinders that can vary in size from small units that can be held in the hand monsters weighing in excess of 200 tonnes with values ranging from less than £1,000 up to more than £1 million for a single unit (rare but possible – maximum single unit price we have sold in the UK is £350K with project values up to £1.4M). Hydraulic knowledge is beneficial but not so important as it can be developed (through relevant hydraulics courses if necessary).
The company’s secondary products include hydraulic seals and bearings which requires product knowledge that will be imparted during initial training. This is an area very important to our clients UK business where the mechanical knowledge is not so important but dedicated sales effort will be required.
