Action in rural Sussex is seeking talented individual/s to join its Board of Trustees, with a general background in one or more of the following disciplines - partnership working, fund-raising, marketing, law, Human Resources (HR) and finance.

General Trustee Responsibilities to include

  • Compliance with governing documents, charity law, company law, statement of recommended practice requirements (SORP) and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • Ensuring the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document
  • Applying organisation’s resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives
  • To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation
  • To agree and implement an income generation/fundraising strategy for the organisation
  • To safeguard the good name and values and ensure financial stability
  • To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
  • Within the context of the above, promote the success of AiRS for the benefit of its beneficiaries, clients, staff and members, with particular regard to likely consequences of any long term decisions, interests of AiRS employees, foster AirS business relationships with funders, clients and others, impact of  AirS operations on the community and the environment

  • Some experience of charity finance, charity fundraising

  • Experience of committee work, specific business or professional skills (as required from time to time)

Time Commitment

Board and Committee Meetings are mostly held in Lewes.  Members of the Board are expected to join one of the committees and therefore the minimum commitment is likely to be eight meetings per year (4 x Board + 4 x Committee Meetings).
