The Organisation:

The Green Recruitment Company is delighted to represent a leading development and infrastructure consultancy in their search for a Route Manager. This is a UK wide consultancy with multiple offices in the EU offering services in Energy, Environment, Geotechnics, Sustainability, Planning & Development, Transport, Waste Management and Water Management. They are looking for a Route Manager to join their growing team in Kent.

The Role:

The Route Manager will be involved in managing a portfolio of routes to ensure that they are maintained an operated safely to meet the Highways Agency’s aims. As part of the role the Route Manager will be involved in;
• Contributing to the preparation of a comprehensive database / portal of traffic, delay incident and KSI data to provide intelligence on Network/Route performance.
• Work with HA colleagues in the Regional Intelligence Unit, Asset Development Team and Service
• Utilising the Watchman process to ensure that observation on the Network are reviewed and developed into Network Needs where appropriate.
• Ensure that relevant intelligence is included in the central database whilst ensuring that Operational information is passed directly to the Asset Management or Network Operations teams for action.
• Develop and promote strategies/Network Needs that meet the Highways Agency’s aims and prime objectives based on Network intelligence.
• Input into the development of a Performance Monitoring Framework with which to assess route performance and operation.
• Develop relationships with Local Authority, Police and other external partners to ensure the effective management of those routes in their portfolio.
• Assess the impact of third party events i.e. special events, emergency repairs etc.
• Assist in the value management process through the development of scheme bids and forward programmes, ensuring that route priorities are accurately reflected in the scheme bids
• Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of issues associated with the portfolio in order to effectively manage those routes.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of all assets associated with the routes in their portfolio.
• Contribute to the Asset Management Plans to achieve future Network performance.
• Involvement and communication with high level strategic meetings involving key stakeholders to ensure effective management.

Person Specification:

The Route Manager will have;
• Full computer literacy - knowledge and proficiency in use of relevant data and analytical software
• Current UK Driving Licence
• Knowledge and experience of highways asset sectors, exhibiting PAS 55 competences, providing services for customers.
• At least 3 years in a network (highways) management environment, with understanding and practical knowledge: of network assets and maintenance techniques, analysis of problems and identification of solutions, current traffic management standards.
• Working under a quality management system, learning from the audit regime.
• Knowledge of network strategies
• Knowledge of HA business planning and systems.
• Working within a matrix management structure.
• Working within a change environment
• Ability to multi-task and maintain timetable for delivery deadlines
• Desire and capability to challenge and to be challenged
• Willingness to accept and manage change
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Customer-focused approach to service delivery
