Instrument & Control Engineer/ System Engineer - Safety/ Nuclear - Permanent - Dorset A brand new opportunity has arisen for a number of Instrument and Control (I&C) Engineer to join a leading engineering business based in the Dorset region on a permanent basis. As an I&C Engineer, you will join a small team of engineering specialists providing a vital service for the existing UK Nuclear Power Plant fleet. The team is responsible for analysing current obsolescent I&C equipment and proposing solutions to enable the equpment to continue to operate in a safe and reliable manner for the life of the nuclear plant. The I&C team will ultimately be responsible for implementing the chosen solutions. As a successful I&C Engineer, you will come from a specific area of I&C system design or maintenance, preferably in a safety regulated industry. Your responsibilities will include the following:
  • detailed analysis of specific aspects of existing equipment to establish requirements for replacement or refurbishment
  • establish a number of new and innovative solutions for the repair or replacement of existing equipment
  • support the production of proposals for a range of solutions
  • produce concise and accurate technical reports, requirements specifications and drawings
  • review technical reports, drawings and designs for safety, functionality and compliance with ONR Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs)
Reporting into the I&C Team Leader, you will play a key role in providing appropriate solutions for the customer base. Typically you will be interfacing with project managers in the I&C area and technical leads, as well as the Technical Director and QA Manager. As such, we are looking for someone with good communication skills (verbal and written) with confidence to discuss the concepts and ideas generated by others within the I&C team. Given the nature of the I&C equipment, you must be safety and quality focused. Although you will not have any direct reports, there will be opportunities to step into a supervisory role of other engineers. Requirements:
  • appropriate technical qualifications in specific areas of electrical/ electronic design or in instrumentation & control
  • ability to demonstrate skill and experience in a specific area of I&C system design or maintenance
  • proven experience in a safety regulated industry (beneficial)
