The HMRC are the UK's tax authority and is the primary source of government income. We are going through a digital transformation of our services, which will improve our customer service and also create a more technologically-advanced workplace for our 80,000 employees

We are looking for 4 Web Operations Engineers to join our Digital Operations team in London. The current office is near Waterloo but will be moving to Canary Wharf in the spring. Digital Operations provide, maintain and optimise the HMRC`s PaaS, with the objective to provide business areas in HMRC and other departments the means to create, maintain and iteratively improve the highest quality services in Government.

We provide the HMRC`s digital delivery teams with everything they need for developing, deploying and improving their services, from the underlying cloud-based PaaS to the tools for collaborative working, performance analytics and live service support.

As a WebOps Engineer you will have the following responsibilities:

- Support service teams with infrastructure issues

- Undertake distinct WebOps work to improve all platform environments

- Undertake operational management of applications

- Automate and script using APIs

- Troubleshoot and test fixes for problems in close collaboration with the user

- Monitor application statistics and define service dashboards

- Initiate and facilitate “tech talks” and cross-PaaS tech collaboration

You will need to be able to demonstrate experience with the following:

- Experience navigating and troubleshooting Linux servers

- Understanding of inter-application communication protocols

- Writing code to solve problems, preferably Python or Ruby

- Distributed Source Control, preferably Git/GitHub

- Installation and management of open source monitoring tools

- Experience with configuration management tools

- Knowledge of Docker, Terraform and NoSQL

- Understanding of application deployment strategies and continuous integration

- Experience of working in agile delivery teams


- Civil Service Pension: at this level, you would contribute 5.45%, and the HMRC would top that up with 20.9% of your salary (net figure of 15.45%)
