My client, a leading medical device company have an exciting opening for an R & D Engineer on a 6 month contract in Waterford.
The Job Challenge is to develop orthopaedic devices using novel proprietary materials and technology, that will deliver clear clinical,
functional and economic benefits to patients, practitioners and healthcare organisations worldwide.

Qualifications: Min 2.1 Degree in any of the following disciplines: Mechanical, electrical or Polymer engineering, Chemistry,
Biomechanics or Materials Science.

Minimum experience and requirements: The candidate must have a minimum of 3 years "Hands on" experience
(ideally in medical device development or manufacture) plus experience of product verification and validation procedures and techniques.
You will have worked under an ISO 13485 or a related quality / regulatory system and are capable of managing projects from conception
to product commercialisation. Familiarity with design and development procedures and experience of building or contributing to a "design history file"
during product development is a distinct advantage. Experience with AutoCAD, Solid Works or similar drawing packages is advantageous.

Your profile: In addition to being creative, resourceful and an innovator, the ideal candidate is a self starter with project management experience and is
highly motivated and performance driven. Ideally you have experience of working with or leading small teams on product development projects.
An excellent communicator and motivator with the ability to "think outside the box" means you can work on your own initiative while your disciplined
approach to problem solving and task completion ensures timely delivery of project milestones. A clean driving licence with own transport is required.

General Duties & Responsibilities

-Carry out D&D activities as directed by the MD or designee
-Material development
-Product/device development
-Carry out Design & Development procedures, FMEcA, Risk analysis etc as per quality system in place at FFR.
-Follow project plans in line with company objectives.
-Maintain strict control of and preservation of proprietary and third party intellectual property.
-Liaison with Universities, Institutes, suppliers and commercial organisations when required.
-Work to achieve goals and objectives as defined in R&D project plans
-Prepare ongoing progress reports on a monthly basis or as requested by MD or designee
-Diligently maintains written records on a daily basis of lab tests (lab book)
-Make a commitment to the job to complete projects on time (go the extra mile if necessary)
-Is responsible for sourcing and follow up with suppliers of materials, chemicals, samples etc as required for R&D programme.
-Liaise with appointed consultant(s) and person(s) with overall responsibility for quality and regulatory affairs for FastForm Research.
-Monitor regulatory issues relating to medical devices under development.
-Prepares patent drafts with validated information and specifications
-Transfer R&D projects to manufacturing

Other tasks include but are not limited to the following and will be reviewed and modified if necessary in line with business objectives and strategies:

-Ensure that development is compliant with the company's regulatory and quality systems, procedures, documentation, audits, and compliance for
CE marking etc.
-Generation and control of documentation for design history and technical files etc.
-Desk top research.
-Testing and characterisation of materials.
-Liaison with research bodies
-Product development at all phases (idea generation through to commercialisation)
-Responsibility for liaison with manufactures, distributors, hospital & healthcare organisations.
-Patents: searching, preparation of drafts, management of company's IP programme as directed.
