This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-established Barnet Early Stroke Discharge Team. You will be working alongside other neuro-occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologist, rehabilitation assistants and technicians, and nursing colleagues. In this post you will have a role in developing your neuro-occupational therapy practice and delivering evidence based early stroke rehabilitation for people returning home following initial treatment in hyper acute or acute stroke units serving the locality. The ESD team work as part of the wider Barnet Intermediate Care Services. The ESD team also has a role to in- reach into acute units to provide advice and support to stroke patients, carers, and referring therapists. There is also a role in supporting the 6 monthly stroke reviews service and participating in a national stroke audit process. The post is also supported by a Band 7 Highly Specialist Neuro-Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist (the team lead for ESD), and the Operational Manager for Barnet Intermediate Care Service. We run weekly stroke specific in-service training, and support opportunities to attend courses related to your professional development plan.It is essential that you have current HPC registration and recognised qualifications as an Occupational Therapist. You should have some experience working with stroke or patients with a neurological condition. Can clearly demonstrate knowledge of neuro- rehabilitation skills needed for specialist assessment and treatment of clients with stroke. Experience should include working in multi-professional teams and across a range of different agencies to V1 updated 13th Jan 2012 achieve the optimum outcome for service users (including working in the community). You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive and innovative approach to service development and have a commitment to multidisciplinary team working/skill sharing. You will also have the ability to support and develop more junior staff and the responsibility to deliver training and use all relevant research and audit data to ensure the service meets the evidence base requirements. It is essential you have a current UK driving license, and access to your own vehicle for driving in the community setting.This position may also have opportunities to become a permanent role with Barnet Intermediate Care Service following this fixed term contract.
