Claims Handler / Policy Administrator

- City of London
- 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
- Salary to £28,000

An opportunity to join the branch office of a major global insurance company, working in partnership with a small team of professional colleagues to ensure the timely progression and accurate settlement of marine cargo / goods in transit claims. You will also process new insurance policies and record any policy adjustments.

Key responsibilities
·Enter claim payments, reserves and new claims on to the system inputting concise yet sufficient file documentation.
·Maintain claims files such as records of settled claims and an inventory of claims requiring detailed analysis.
·Verify and analyse data used in settling claims to ensure that claims are valid and settlements are made according to company practices and procedures.
·Examine claims investigated by insurance adjusters further investigating questionable claims to determine whether to authorise payments.
·Present cases and participate in discussions at claim committee meetings.
·Report overpayments, underpayments and other irregularities.
·Communicate with reinsurance brokers to obtain information necessary for processing claims.
·Supervise claims adjusters to ensure that they have followed proper methods.
·Prepare claims reports to be submitted to directors.
·Investigate, evaluate and settle claims applying technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to resolve cases and to contribute to a reduced loss ratio.
·Pay and process claims within designated authority level.
·Adjust reserves and provide reserve recommendations to ensure reserving activities consistent with company policies.
·Modify, update and process existing policies and claims to reflect any changes in beneficiary, amount of coverage or type of insurance.
·Send settlement of claim payment to FAC reinsurers.
·Any other tasks that the company may reasonably assign from time to time, according to business needs.

- Candidates must be able to show solid experience within a claims handling environment; Insurer, Broker, Agency or Loss Adjusting background.

- Some technical knowledge of marine cargo / goods in transit claims is preferred.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

- Excellent organisation and attention to detail are necessary.
