DBA / Database Administrator - 6 months contract role, up to £500/day, City of London, Lloyd's Insurance Market

SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 /Cubes / ETL / PowerShell, WMI / VBScript / Transact/Ansi 92 SQL / Windows 2003/2008 /



Key aspects of the role:
  • To provide 3rd Level support for Database and Application servers.
  • To proactively manage Database and Application services to minimise Business disruption. This includes Backup, Disaster Recovery, Performance monitoring and Archiving solutions.
  • To manage, deliver and contribute to new infrastructure projects as directed by the Group IT Architecture Manager and agreed by the Chief Technology Officer


Key responsibilities:
  • Database and application support and maintenance
  • Proactively monitor the Database and Application Servers and environments and identify operational issues as early as possible.
  • Resolve Database and Application problems as identified through monitoring or escalated by the ServiceDesk / other IT staff in accordance with agreed procedures, standards and Service Levels and in a way to minimise Business disruption.
  • Ensure that database are backed up in accordance with the Data Backup processes.
  • Execute planned Preventative Maintenance activities to improve the IT Operational resilience.
  • Ensure that Database and Application Security Processes and controls are complied with across IT.
  • Ensure that Database and Application software is maintained at levels to best protect the IT Operational service.
  • Manage the provision of Database and Application services and support from Third Party Server, SAN and Desktop suppliers.
  • Monitor for and deal with Database and Application vulnerabilities and remediation.
  • Provide support to outsource providers in establishing a high level of service to the group.
  • Review and approve or challenge assigned Database and Application changes to the Network as part of the Change Control process.
  • Contribute to the Operational Planning for Database and Application services.
  • Maintain end-to-end Database and Application IT technical documentation and provide technical input into the Production Acceptance Documents.


Disaster Recovery:
  • Maintain end-to-end Database and Application IT Disaster Recovery documentation, Tests and processes, including co-ordination with Projects Teams as new applications and services are implemented into production.
  • Undertake Disaster Recovery testing in accordance with the agreed plans.
  • Undertake remediation activities identified through Disaster Recovery testing in accordance with the remediation plan.


Database and Application projects:
  • Execute SQL builds for work requests and projects to deliver new database and application services such as to meet agreed objectives. Such projects will be under the direction of the Group IT Architecture Manager




Experience:
  • SQL Server 2000 / 2005 /2008 experience.
  • Analysis services experience Including Cubes and ETL's
  • Knowledge of Scripting languages i.e. PowerShell, WMI, VBscript.
  • Strong Transact/Ansi 92 SQL coding skills.
  • Knowledge of Windows 2003/2008.
  • Knowledge of IIS an advantage.
