Band 3 Trainee Nursing Associate
An exciting opportunity is available to be part of a second cohort to pilot Nursing Associates throughout Somerset. This is a 2 year full time developmental role and Trainee Nursing Associates will undertake an apprenticeship programme offering a blend of work placed learning, placements and study days, requiring successful candidates to be flexible in working across different environments and education settings.
Nursing Associates work at a level above that of Healthcare Support Workers, supporting colleagues to deliver high quality patient care and as an outcome of their training, have a more in-depth understanding about factors that influence health and ill-health.
The trainee will work towards progression into the post of Nursing Associate through successful completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes the attainment of a level 5 Foundation Degree in Science for Nursing Associates . They will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nursing Associate within the service and through completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes working in care settings and delivery of person-centred care.
The Nursing Associate training programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. Trainee Nursing Associates are employees based in a particular organisation in a specific setting, they will experience working in alternative settings in order to gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts and are able to fulfil all the requirements of the programme. Learning provision will be provided by Bridgwater and Taunton College at their Taunton campus
In order to be considered for this opportunity candidates must have the following:

GCSE Maths and English A-C, or functional skills at level 2. You will need to provide your certificates
Level 3 in any subject (level 2 will be considered with experience alongside a Certificate in Bridging Skills for Higher Education in Health or equivalent)
One reference from current line manager
Must be able to travel to placements within the County of Somerset and occasional visits to University of the West of England in Bristol

On successful completion of the programme you will be a qualified Nursing Associate and be able to apply for Band 4 Nursing Associate roles. You will also be able to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for registration as a Nursing Associate (this is Subject to confirmation from the NMC). In addition this new role provides an access route to registered nursing with Accreditation of Prior Experience or Learning (APeL) opportunities being explored as the programme progresses.

Successful applicants will commence the programme w/c 23rd April with a full week of college based induction and attend college weekly on either a Tuesday or Thursday subject to confirmation.
You will be employed within the Trust in a clinical area that is grounded firmly in direct care provision working with patients, families and carers in a range of settings in primary, secondary, community & social care.
We are currently employing trainee Nursing Associates in medical, surgical and specialist nurse lead areas, mental health, district nursing and community hospital settings.
