This is an exciting time for our staff, following a recent review of healthcare services in Dorset which will see major changes to the way healthcare is provided. As one of the two acute NHS providers in the east of the county, our services will be closely linked to those provided at the Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We’re working in close collaboration to deliver excellent emergency and planned care over the two sites, for the people of east Dorset.

It’s been a busy time for Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust pharmacy department. Following a major restructure, a recent departmental redesign and automated dispensing, our Chief Pharmacist and senior team are keen to drive forwards the clinical pharmacy service. Our structure is oriented to encourage career development and we are in the process of implementing electronic prescribing and with this, new ways of working. As a team we are committed to working alongside our clinical and nursing colleagues to help deliver the best care for patients.
We’ve embraced medicines optimisation, seven day working and new roles within the department so now is the time to join our team to help shape our services.

We have a vacancy for an experienced pharmacist to join us as a Specialist Band 7 Pharmacist, within the Medicine for the Elderly directorate. The role will involve providing and developing the clinical pharmacy service to the elderly admissions unit, as well as supporting other wards within the directorate as appropriate.
We welcome applications from enthusiastic, motivated and driven pharmacists with excellent clinical and communication skills to join our dynamic team. The applicant must be efficient, organised, a good team worker but also able to act as an autonomous practitioner; they should be innovative and resourceful. It is an exciting role that will require interaction with a variety of people, including patients, nurses and doctors on a one-to-one basis. You will be supported by a senior pharmacist and also expected to oversee the work of junior staff.
This position is ideal for a pharmacist looking to lead the daily clinical pharmacy provision within the Older Peoples Service on a specialist Rapid Access and Consultant Evaluation unit. This is a multidisciplinary lead, forward thinking, dynamic unit. We are looking for pharmacists who have hospital experience and also hold a diploma in clinical pharmacy. We are fully committed to developing our staff and will offer the support needed to ensure our team members achieve their personal goals. Although not an essential criteria, Poole pharmacy strategy is committed to developing the role of pharmacists as independent prescribers and the expectation would be that, if not already qualified or on the course to obtain this qualification, it would be started at the earliest opportunity.
You will be expected to work Saturdays, Sundays, bank holidays & early evenings on a rotational basis.
If this job requires you to have a DBS check to enable you to properly fulfil the requirements of the job, on appointment you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check and this amount will be reclaimed from your salary.
