This is an exciting time for our staff, following a recent review of healthcare services in Dorset which will see major changes to the way healthcare is provided. As one of the two acute NHS providers in the east of the county, our services will be closely linked to those provided at the Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We’re working in close collaboration to deliver excellent emergency and planned care over the two sites, for the people of east Dorset.
The Medical Investigation Unit (MIU) / C4 accommodates 6-11 beds for medical elective patients or those that require acute short stays.
The MIU currently undertakes an extensive nurse led investigation programme that includes Lumbar punctures, pacemaker assessments, PICC line insertion, Cardioversion, blood and platelet transfusion, bone marrow biopsies, ascitic drain insertion, wide range of IV therapies to name but a few. The inpatient stay beds provide ward based nursing care for short stay medical patients.
This is an opportunity for Registered Nurses to take an important role within the team on this motivated and dynamic unit. The unit offers excellent opportunities for staff development and has a very clear commitment to the clinical supervision process.
