Chief Executive South West Are you our new Chief Executive; able to realise our vision for better jobs, better growth and prosperity for all? About Us: The Heart of the South West LEP is a strong business led partnership between the private sector, social enterprises, local authorities, universities and colleges. We have established an impressive track record and partnerships leading and influencing economic growth, job creation and prosperity. The Heart of the South West area, covering Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay, has a mix of urban and rural settings, stunning natural capital, rich heritage and a tremendously exciting range of business opportunities. We already have a £750m investment pipeline to support our mission to see better productivity and better jobs and are poised to launch a new delivery plan for a step change in prosperity for all. Additionally, the Government has just confirmed our funding for a further two years and that it intends to further strengthen the role of LEPs going forward. The Role: As the Chief Executive, you will promote and sustain our economic development and enhanced productivity and prosperity for all in the HotSW LEP area; by promoting our strengths, and influencing, attracting and directing investment towards the necessary infrastructure and the development of a skilled workforce; by enabling the sustainable growth of businesses and social enterprises; to make the most of our natural capital, the changing economic development environment and evolving landscape of collaborations across the Heart of the South West of England. You will play a key role in realising our vision of connecting people, places, businesses and ideas to transform our economy, securing investment in infrastructure and skills to create more jobs and enable rewarding careers. Specifically, you will: - Understand the true strengths and weaknesses of our area so the area’s strategies and plans are based on relevant knowledge - Promote the distinctiveness of the HotSW economy and its potential for business and social enterprise growth, innovation and enterprise - Engage with all our partners and stakeholders within HotSW region, and national or international contacts to develop and deliver the area’s plans for productivity growth; working through appropriate governance structures and transparent processes - Facilitate partnerships to enable prosperity for all, better business growth, better job creation and the delivery of new homes in the area - Attract and facilitate further investment through public sector revenue or capital funding from local, regional and national authorities/agencies - Ensure that all funding programmes are managed effectively with projects delivered on time and within budget - Act as an ambassador for the organisation, including attending speaking engagements at a local and national level - Lead the Executive Team, ensuring that resources are effectively utilised About You: To be considered as our Chief Executive, you will need: - To relish working in a world where variety is the common denominator - Strong leadership, communications and relationship skills to build collaborations with a range of public, education and private sector organisations - A senior level and proven leadership record in a related economic development field, such as infrastructure, skills and/or business support - A good understanding of what management, governance and transparency frameworks are needed when managing our investment pipeline to maximise impact and assurance - A degree (or equivalent), - A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle - The willingness to travel throughout the UK when required, including spending some nights away from home Experience of successful and significant funding bids would be an advantage. Knowledge of making the most of natural capital or cluster development would be equally advantageous.
