Introducing Peninsula

At Peninsula, we are a consultancy specialising in Employment Law and Health and Safety Advice. What this means is that we partner with SMEs and make sure they are complying with the law so they can do what they love – namely getting on with running their business. Different departments within Peninsula manage the different services we offer to our clients, and each of these departments has its own bespoke IT systems. We are hiring an experienced SQL Server DBA to manage and improve our database estate.

About the Job

We currently maintain stand-alone SQL Server 2008 R2 instances with transactional replication and failover clustering, and SQL Server 2014 instances with availability groups. We are in the process of migrating the legacy 2008 databases into the 2014 instances.
You will be responsible for creating database test environments to enable automation and end to end testing of systems by our Software Delivery teams.
In addition to the above, you will continue the personal development of our newly qualified DBA.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced DBA to join our existing team, where you will be assisting our Software Delivery team on the migration project, be involved in any new project lifecycle, maintaining the security of our data, and ensuring our data remains highly available by maximising uptime and maintaining consistent data backups. You will also play a key part in the Company’s GDPR strategy, ensuring that all systems are comprehensively data mapped and liaising with our Data Protection Officer where necessary.
  • You have proven experience with SQL Server 2008R2 and 2014
  • You know how systems interact with databases and be comfortable working with Technical Architects to plan how existing database schemas can be improved.
  • You are confident advising Software Developers on stored procedures and T-SQL, and have exposure to nHibernate and entity framework solutions connecting to SQL.
  • You have experience reviewing and performance tuning indexes, stored procedures etc.
  • You have previously looked at decoupling databases from each other and key systems and services.
Why Join our Team?
This is a superb place to work if you love solving problems, enjoy a challenge and have genuine enthusiasm for overcoming obstacles and learning, you’ll love it. Your people and technical skills will be tested every day. There are endless opportunities for you to develop and grow and you’ll really make a difference to all sorts of people. We are a family-run business, who are incredibly ambitious and constantly expanding and I can promise you will enjoy every single day.
