Principal Software Engineer (Java 8/ Kotlin/ Node.js) - Leeds

This role offers the opportunity to work at a senior level for a leading software development consultancy, where you will get the chance to work on high profile projects for clients across a wide range of industries – projects that are technically challenging, but extremely rewarding. Working with diverse technology stacks, you will help clients solve varied and demanding technical problems, in an environment where hard work and initiative are rewarded and celebrated. This role would suit somebody from a commercial Java background, which is looking to gain experience of opensource technology and further their career in Java.

Principal Software Engineer (Java 8/ Kotlin/ Node.js): The Role

Working initially as a Java Engineer, in time you will also be expected to broaden your skills and become a multi-faceted full stack engineer, who is motivated to learn new tools, technologies and techniques across diverse tech stacks and the entire development lifecycle. As a Principal Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to a team of Software Engineers, leading by example by writing efficient, secure, performant code.

Principal Software Engineer (Java 8/ Kotlin/ Node.js): What we’re looking for

·Hands-on experience as a Principal Engineer in Java, Kotlin or Node.js

·Experience of working at Lead or Principal level, engineering enterprise services ideally across a number of different business domains

·Experience of working with DevOps tools (Docker, Vagrant, Prometheus etc)

·A background in working within an Agile software delivery environment

·An understanding of source code management systems (Git), build tools (Maven) and CI tools (Jenkins / Concourse)

·Experience of messaging systems such as RabbitMQ

·Experience of leading a team of high-performing software engineers

·Ideally you will have some client facing experience, with a background in liaising with key internal and external stakeholders

·Experience of other development / scripting languages, Python, PHP, Go, C++, C#, Ruby, Bash

·Exposure to IaaS services (AWS / Google Cloud / Rackspace / Azure) would be beneficial
