Up to £90,000 plus benefits



A well-known global bus and rail organisation based in Westminster are looking for a Group Data Protection Officer to help them complete their GDPR implementation and to aid in their ongoing compliance with regards to GDPR.

The role will entail working closely with a wide number of internal teams (marketing, sales, product management) and all other relevant stakeholders to build an understanding in the group of data protection issues and to ensure they are compliant with applicable regulations, primarily GDPR. This role will advise on all areas of data privacy matters and their application to the companies systems, processes, policies and products.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Data Privacy - Complete roll out of GDPR implementation across the Group and its subsidiaries
  • Provide information and issue recommendations to the group companies.
  • Foster a data protection culture within the organisation and help to implement essential elements of Data protections, such as the principles of data processing, data subjects' rights, data protection by design and by default, records of processing activities, security of processing, and notification and communication of data breach
  • Analyse and advise on all data protection queries from different members of the business
  • Be a central point of contact for any queries from external or internal customers around data
  • Run workshops and training sessions to share knowledge around compliance, data protection, etc
  • Carry out initial and regular audits of systems, processes and policies to ensure we are compliant
  • Develop a data/application/risk register for the division
  • Monitor effectiveness of internal controls conducting assessments and audits
  • Manage/have oversight of Subject Access Requests and Data Breaches and responses
  • Review of Privacy Impact Assessments
  • Ensure appropriate security controls are in place and documented




Required Skills:
  • Expertise in national and European data protection laws and practices and an in-depth understanding of the GDPR


  • Integrity and high professional ethics


  • Experience liaising with ICO


  • Demonstrable experience in a Data Protection Officer position
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the highest levels of management and decision-making within the organization
  • Familiarity with privacy and security risk assessment and best practices, privacy certifications/seals, and information security standards certifications
  • Sound understanding of and familiarity with information technology programming and infrastructure, and information security practices and audits
  • Ability to communicate effectively with data subjects, data protection authorities and other controllers and processors across national boundaries and cultures
  • Adequate self-awareness and confidence to acknowledge knowledge gaps and seek to fill them from reliable sources
  • Team player with a strong focus on communication and service delivery
  • Pragmatic, business orientated mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Detail oriented
