Engineering Manager

Would you like to be part of an exciting programme, at the cutting edge of technology development? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager at our site in Ash Vale.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be managing a crucial combat system upgrade programme for all UK submarines, in-service, in-build, and future platforms. You will be leading the system and product level design of IT networking and operating system infrastructure, on which the combat system is built.

This is an exciting time to join our Combat Systems business, as it is growing to meet a strong order book, delivering cutting edge, critical engineering programmes.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:

Leading the design and delivery of the infrastructure upgrade programme for the combat system, encompassing virtualised processing environments, high resilience Ethernet, display solutions, and built-in tests

Managing a team of specialist Engineers directly, and indirect management of project staff where required

Management and definition of functional /non-functional system requirements

System and product level development, including concept definition, and managing architectural constraints

Undertaking product design studies for new technology concepts, and assessments of commercial solutions, prototyping and de-risking

Decomposition and allocation of requirements, for specific products

Managing the internal interface design for physical and data services

Derivation of equipment requirements (functional and non-functional) to enable sub-contract procurement

Defining product level test and acceptance strategies

Leading the assessment of future technology roadmaps, working closely with customers and key suppliers

Your skills and qualifications:

Demonstrable engineering experience in systems level design and product development

Good understanding and experience of requirements derivation

Background in networking, processing, operating systems, and/ or virtualisation

Experience in people management

Desirable skills and experience:

'System of systems' knowledge

Defence industry background

Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience)
