Reports to: Senior Designer

The ideal candidate will have an eye for great design, an understanding of the brand and aesthetic and be proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Knowledge of Indesign would be a plus. It's important that you are familiar with our products and understand what sets us apart from the competition.

Key Objectives of role:

1.Creating 'house' style cards and ancillary product in-line with the brand strategy
·Innovate new and develop existing ranges and designs for cards and ancillary product.
·Generating new colour palettes, drawing styles, patterns, fonts and themes, synonymous with the brand.
·Creating mood boards and staying abreast of the design industry trends with magazines and blogs.
·Initiating research trips: attending exhibitions, galleries, visiting shops and reading magazines.
·Working across various projects simultaneously.
·Utilizing sales information to design commercial yet cutting edge
·Working with sales team to understand key national accounts and Independent customers preferences.

2.Understanding of key customer groups
*A strong commercial awareness to design in accordance with a cards topic, theme, type and target market. (who would send this card and why?).
*Awareness of target customers (both trade and retail) or new emerging markets from sales meetings with Buying/Merchandising and/or comp shops.
*Utilising sales information from sales tracker to design the next 'best seller'.
*Frequent visits to review competitors's ranges in order to stay ahead of the market (in store, online and in magazines).


3.Ability to manage own workload within the critical path
*Understanding the time scale for each release and ensuring all deadlines are met.
*Sending artwork to print on time and relaying relevant information to the Buying and Merchandising teams.
*Updating the range plan with product codes, descriptions and 'finish' information.
*Working with all members of the team to ensure deadlines are met.
*Communicating timeline issues to the relevant departments if/when they arise.
*Effectively manage own time with little or no prompting required line manager.

4.To take creative design work from conception through to the completion of print-ready artwork
·Managing the approval process in line with critical path.
·Obtaining and tracking design work for 'sign-off'.
·Generating barcodes using specialist software and upload to online tracker.
·Checking digital proofs for accuracy of design, finish, spelling and all codes before submitting to Design Manager or Art Director for final approval. Accountable for accuracy of work produced.
·Approval process for all printed stock including printed cards, wrap and ancillary and ensuing the final product is satisfactory before delivery to warehouse.
·Attain solid working relationships with all main suppliers and gain a thorough understanding of their processes and create artwork in accordance with their specification.

5.Design room admin
Carrying out design room admin tasks per release, which include:
·Issuing design work to ACID for data protection and organising documentation.
·Archiving design work.
·Creating an email-able PDF of every release and circulating it throughout the business.
·Updating release folder.
