Ultra Electronics, Communication & Integrated Systems (Ultra CIS) is one of the larger UK based Ultra businesses and is operationally run as four business units: Information Assurance, Secure Communications, EWST and Surveillance & Security Systems. These business units are underpinned by a shared services structure which incorporates finance, HR, operations and communications. Across Ultra CIS we provide encryption, network protection, automated payments, tactical and commercial communications and telemetry systems, covert and mobile surveillance systems and situational awareness technology to defence, public sector and commercial customers worldwide.

Job Purpose:
Define and implement the product and production test strategy and manage customer support queries and returns.

Scope / dimensions:
Product/production test across all GigaSat product lines and customer support for all products. Occasional product demonstrations at customer facilities in UK and abroad.

Key Responsibilities:
• Implementing manufacturing strategies and action plans, as directed, to ensure that the engineering test performance supports the business strategic objectives.
• Test all production products including providing system engineering support.
• Define and capture bespoke product/system requirements and develop system level designs.
• Provide customer support and be responsible for the RMA process.
• Produce product test plans and factory acceptance test plans.
• Maintain all relevant documentation and test records.
• Sales support through customer liaison, demonstrations and system design inputs.
• Engineering support to include regression testing of new products, environmental testing, EMC testing and inputs into the design cycle where appropriate.
• Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• Communication System Design
• Extensive experience of testing high frequency communication systems and circuits to 40GHz.
• Board and module level testing to include:
o High Power Amplifiers
o Frequency Converters
o Digital and analogue baseband circuits
• Be able to use a wide range of test equipment such as, Spectrum Analysers, Vector Network Analysers, Signal Generators, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analysers and Power Meters.
• Be able to fault find at a system level down to circuit board level.
• Thorough regression testing of new products
• Familiarity of testing products to various environmental standards
• Familiarity of testing products to EMC standards
• Hands on engineering approach
• Project management experience

• BEng/BSc in Electronic Engineering preferred
• HNC/HND in Electronic Engineering will be considered with considerable practical experience
• Ability to obtain SC Clearance
