Occupational Health Staff Sister Band 6JOB SUMMARY: The nurse advisor will… *provide and deliver in partnership with Manager and colleagues an *occupational health service for all staff of the Hospital & external clients. *Provide specialist advice to HR, managers and staff employed by the trust & external clients*Will act as deputy for nurse manager as required.* Will provide a supervisory/ mentor role to junior staff and those in training.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Professional Leadership/Management * Contribute to the effective day to day running of the OH department * To support the head of department in delivering high standard of service user care.* Develop a working partnership with key areas within the Trust & external clients to deliver the occupational health & well- being strategy.* Lead on and contribute to producing guidelines/policies/procedures for the OH department* To work autonomously whilst also working as required as part of the multidisciplinary team. * To act as an effective role model.* To support the delivery of OH targets.* Participate in the competency assessment of staff working within OH.* Be involved in delivery of teaching/training/development to individuals/ larger groups of trust staff * Participate in ensuring SEQOHS standards are maintained * Financial awareness of department budgetary constraintsClinical Practice* Undertake pre-placement health assessments and advise on fitness for work .* To deliver a prompt and reliable immunisation & vaccination programme to employees in accordance with DOH guidelines. * Manage Sharps and Splash injuries in accordance with Trust Policy* Ability to perform Venepuncture* Undertake Manager referral clinics within the department* Liase with managers and risk management on all health & safety and environmental issues and advising on health surveillance requirements for employees as necessary.* Maintain effective & confidential record keeping , both written and computerised within personal records of staff in accordance with national standards* To acquire competency in nursing skills for designated area as outlined in knowledge and skills framework.* To provide workplace assessments and advice. * Identify areas for health & well being initiatives to improve staff health,staff performance and patient care & supporting managers .* To keep up to date with changes in clinical practice and change practice of self and others as appropriate..* To work as an effective team member promoting team cohesion.* Provide timely,practicable and appropriate health communication to HR, managers and employees* To care for a defined case load showing an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.* To contribute to the development and implementation of policies protocols and procedures.* Participate in audit as required and disseminate information to relevant parties* Be proactive in promoting the Trusts Health & Well Being strategy Clinical GovernanceThe post holder will operate at all times to high standards of probity. This will include:* Promote compliance with Health & safety legislation* Develop knowledge and competence of local incident reporting and complaints procedures.* Ensure safe clinical practice is maintained.* Ensure mandatory and competency based training is kept up to date* Assist the OH nurse manager in the appraisal process by undertaking appraisals of the OH clinical team identifying their development needs.* Participate in audit and research.* Participate in the investigation of complaints/litigation/adverse incidents and ensure all documentation is completed.* Promote risk management systems within own area and ensure untoward incidents are reported according to trust policy.* Comply with the Data Protection Act and other requirements for client confidentiality within occupational healthNurses ResponsibilityRegistered Nurses at the trust have a responsibility to:* Maintain active status on NMC register complying with revalidation standards* Act always in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct and guiding documents* Adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures* Participate in annual appraisal according to Trust Policy* Maintain up to date skills and knowledge and maintain awareness of professional issues.Search is an equal opportunities recruiter and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified applicants, regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age
