Job Description:Recruit by Nature are currently looking for an experienced full time Consultant Psychiatrist to join an independent hospital within Darlington. The hospital provides assessment and intervention for up to 17 men living with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. There is full access to clinical and therapeutic specialist support to enable us to deliver creative, flexible and effective responses to individual need.
The Consultant Psychiatrist – Intellectual Disability Responsibilities:

You will undertake work that is meaningful to our service users and socially important within the local community – working for the hospital will provide you with the opportunity to support vulnerable adults – some of which may present with challenging behaviour – achieve their goals.
The main focus of the role will be to support the provision of safe, sound and supportive care to the people who use our service. You will have working relationships with the nursing and multidisciplinary teams, as well as internal and external stakeholders, including service users’ families and loved ones.
As a specialist within intellectual disability, you will provide leadership to Service Managers and the Multi-disciplinary teams within your region.
Diagnostic and treatment reviews and mental and physical treatment administration.
Preparation of reports for and attendance at Mental Health Tribunal hearings as appropriate. A good knowledge of the Mental Health Act is required.
Review of patients in preparation for CPA reviews and chairing of CPA reviews.
Contribution of medical opinion by participating in the regular and exceptional MDT meetings.
Provision of advice and support on request to other members of the team in issues related to his/her competence and expertis.
Good record keeping and communication of results of assessments to colleagues and writing appropriate reports.
Taking an active role in administration and management of the team’s clinical work in collaboration with/under the supervision of the service manager.

The Consultant Psychiatrist – Intellectual Disability Essentials:

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
Completed accredited training in learning disability psychiatry
Registered as a Specialist in Psychiatry on GMC Specialist Register (or are eligible for such inclusion)
Approved clinician status
Approved under the section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act or equivalent
Wide clinical experience of inpatient learning disability psychiatry
Experience of multidisciplinary team working
Able to meet duties under Mental Health and capacity legislation
Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative
