An exciting opportunity has become available to join us as a Consultant Learning Disability Psychiatrist at Fairview Hospital in Colchester.

Fairview is 62 bedded specialist service for men and women with learning disabilities and other complex needs such as autism, personality disorder, mental health conditions, forensic histories and challenging behaviours. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to gain exposure of working with a variety of patients. The hospital benefits from a fully equipped activity centre both on and off-site so that opportunities for rehabilitation are maximised. Positive Behaviour Support and Active Support models are embedded in what we do, to ensure all patients have a voice and are supported in the way that suits their needs best.

In this role you will:

• Have medical responsibility for up to approximately 23 patients across the service
• Streamline and manage the admissions and discharges for the most efficient use of beds at the hospital
• Be responsible for the supervision of reports for Mental Health Act Tribunals and managers' hearings and would be expected to attend hearings whenever possible
• Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management and to embed clinical governance within the hospital
• Have overall responsibility of patient treatment plans, whilst liaising with the multidisciplinary team
• Participate in the 1 in 9 on-call rota

We are looking for people who have:

• Full GMC Registration
• Recent experience at senior level in Learning Disability Psychiatry
• Relevant experience within a similar setting and working with adults aged 18+
• Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act
• MRCPsych or equivalent
• Ability to work alongside and lead a multidisciplinary team
• In-depth knowledge of Mental Health Legislation
• Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management principles
• Proven record of Continued Professional Development
• Excellent communication skills
