Sonographer Area: EalingFull Time permanent role.Dept: Radiology Responsible to: Lead SonographerAccountable to: Clinical LeadBand: 7Hours: 37.5 hours per weekLocation: In order to meet the needs of the Trust's services you maybe required from time to time to work at different locations toyour normal place of work.Salary: up to £46,315JOB SUMMARYPerform high quality, unsupervised, ultrasound examinations. Formulate comprehensive, diagnostic, independently written reports for each examinationCommunicate distressing and unwelcome/unexpected news directly to patients using tact, empathy and diplomacy.Communicate complex information regarding diagnosis/treatment directly to clinicians and patients.To continue to develop and maintain personal clinical expertise in ultrasound scanning.Train, supervise and assess undergraduates, postgraduates and clinicians in the field of ultrasound.Be flexible and able to work under pressure of high workloads.Role Responsibilities:Performs positive ID check with every patient and obtain verbal consent.Expands given medical history by direct discussion with patient using focused questions including risks, benefits and limitations.Disclose normal results to patients as per departmental protocol. Autonomy of practice to disclose abnormal results to patients.Counsels patients and relatives.Continually communicates highly complex, sensitive information. Requires empathy and understanding. Needs to overcome barriers to communication such as language, environment, vulnerable and uncooperative patients.
Level of Clinical ResponsibilityTo independently undertake a wide range of high quality ultrasound examinations.Obtain verbal consent for intimate examinations / use chaperone as necessary.Frequent periods of intense concentration are required to obtain and interpret images in a dynamic environment.Report ultrasound examinations using a high level of specialist knowledge and make recommendations as necessary.Possess excellent communication and counselling skillsTo organize working environment to minimize personal risk of work related upper limb disorders (RSI)Clean equipment on a regular basis.
