The Biosample Therapeutic Area Leader: is accountable for strategic and operational oversight of biosample collection and management within one or more pRED (Pharma early research development) therapeutic areas is accountable for ensuring all biosamples in pRED programs are collected, processed and reported in accordance with and adherence to relevant clinical, laboratory, regulatory and ethical standards (eg GCP/GLP) innovates and drives best practices in all operational aspects of biosampling in pRED clinical development In addition the Biosample Therapeutic Area Leader will have line management responsibilities. Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities: To provide expert operational input to the development of sampling strategies and assume accountability for implementation within the pRED therapeutic areas (TA), including development of biosample sourcing strategies and support of forecasting biosampling-related costs. To be a single point of contact within Biosample Operations for all biosampling matters across a TA and act as a point of escalation for issues that cannot be resolved at the study or project level. To identify and drive functional process and system improvements to ensure operational excellence. To actively develop and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. To partner across the organization to improve the efficiency of biosample collection and storage, as well as the utility of biomarker data and samples to inform future research. Drive internal standards to meet or exceed industry standards and practices through pro-active understanding of cutting edge methodology and process and fostering a culture of innovation. To proactively manage, lead and develop Clinical Operations staff to maximize their capability and contribution to deliver high quality clinical programs and studies through ongoing performance management (as appropriate). To allocate and manage the resource needs within the TAs ensuring timely and accurate forecasting of functional resources. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.Education / Qualifications: • Life sciences degree and/or higher/professional level qualification • Extensive experience in the bio/pharmaceutical industry providing Biosample support for a significant number of clinical programs including Safety and PK samples as well as biomarker collection and processing Desirable Experience, Skills, Knowledge • Extensive experience in leading and managing biosample operational activities in global clinical projects • Demonstrated expertise and experience in Neuroscience, Ophthalmology and/or Rare diseases is preferred • Clinical or biological laboratory experience with evidence of involvement in the processing and/or analysis of biological samples • Demonstrated success within a leadership role, managing external vendors and internal partners • Ability to maintain currency in expertise through networking and educational activities • Proven ability to successfully achieve results within a multi-cultural and geographically diverse matrix environment • Previous line and/or matrix management experience • Demonstrated experience in resource and budget management • Knowledge of regulatory environment in specific global regions; ability to facilitate sample collection and management in compliance with global and regional requirements. • Demonstrated abilities in strategic planning and leadership skills • Demonstrated ability to influence, motive and command respect from broad stakeholder population. • Proven ability to support innovation even if taken outside of his/her comfort zone High Performance Competencies • Effective communication skills • Leadership through line management and influence • Ability to design and drive improvements in business process • Ability to coach and mentor others to support high performance Who we are Our UK Pharmaceutical head office is situated in Welwyn garden City, Hertfordshire, with beautiful country side surrounding the area.
