Job purpose The purpose of the Medical Director role is to provide strong leadership to the Sandoz UK Medical affairs team and activities. The Medical Director will be responsible to set and execute the Medical Affairs strategies for the country organization’s (CO) medical department, as well as having an influence on the overall country strategy as being part of the Senior Leadership Team. The Medical Director contributes valuable strategic inputs to Global Medical Affairs (GMA) Therapeutic Area’s strategic medical affairs plans, and local commercial plans. They ensure adherence to applicable company standards, policies and procedures and instill, and operate within a culture of ethical and compliant behavior. Key Responsibilities • To provide leadership, line management and the development of the country organization medical team to generate and implement strategic and tactical plans that address patient, customer and business needs. • To ensure that appropriate resourcing, skills and capabilities are in place to support country organization, regional and global medical affairs activities and R&D initiatives. • To lead the recruitment/retention and mentoring of high potential employees in conjunction with Regional Medical Affair Head and local HR to ensure talent management and succession planning activities are undertaken. • To develop the local clinical research plans. Conduct of local research activities in a scientific, efficient and compliant way, with due regard to applicable policies, processes and procedures and national regulations, and alignment with areas of strategic research interest for relevant products/therapeutic areas. • To Provide medical support for, and help develop and maintain professional and credible relationships with external experts and academic centers. Identify appropriately qualified external local experts who would wish to engage in collaborative efforts – such as potential research collaborations – with Sandoz; ensure a high level of scientific integrity in these collaborative efforts. • To be a strategic collaborator in relevant Brand Teams, and ensure medical alignment with local objectives where possible. • To act as the primary contact for medical governance requirements within the CO. Be accountable for understanding compliance requirements, risk identification and assessment, mitigation planning as well as implementation and monitoring of appropriate internal controls. • To serve as the company’s key medical spokesperson and primary medical representative with governmental agencies, professional associations, special interest groups and the healthcare community at large. • To ensure adherence to applicable company standards, policies and procedures among affiliate medical staff.
