PRISON WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR/ TRAINER

Long term temporary contract based on 37 hours per week. Monday to Friday.
£13.66 per hour

Overview of the position
As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit a Prison Workshop Instructor for Swaleside Prison, Kent. This is a Long-term Temporary Contract, expecting to last at least 3-6 months, based on 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

The Instructor role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. Always in demand, you could benefit from long-term contracts and there is also potential, once trained, to work in other prisons both locally and nationally. You must be local to the prison or have your own transport. Basic Uniform will need to be provided by the temporary worker in most establishments.

Purpose of the Instructor role
As part of the Industries Team within the specialist workshops, you will be responsible for instructing and training small prisoner parties, working on Painting & Decorating and Tiling projects. There will be permanent members of staff and Prison Officers in your location at all times, to oversee you and your personal safety. Kent Prisons have an excellent reputation as busy local prisons, which serve all the courts in the South East. They pride themselves in engaging and involving employees working alongside them in the process of change.

Experience
A Training qualification would be ideal for this position but not essential. Previous experience in training, assessing or teaching would be ideal for this role. As would previous experience with offenders, prisoners, vulnerable adults or within a Prison or Educational facility. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills.

Security Clearance required
All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 6 weeks, this may will include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
