Full Time
Charles Austen Pumps has been manufacturing pumps for almost three quarters of a century. We hold a vast number of patents and championed design shifts that have dragged the seemingly stale pump manufacturing industry into the future.

Our team of engineers are credited with a number of ground-breaking industry firsts and our pioneering rotary diaphragm pumping principle set the foundations on which we built our entire condensate range. We don't just gather up components and 'turn out' a pump, we design and manufacture it from the ground up.

We are looking for engineers to join our team where your skills will be used to solve challenging problems, constantly improve product and manufacturing processes and maintain and improve Company standards. You will be required to use Lean Engineering tools to identify the root causes of problems and manage, to completion, any proposed solution.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, this is a key role in the design, maintenance and development of an exciting product range, applying innovative problem solving skills. Experience of pumps, rotating machinery and electric motors would be a distinct advantage.

Your duties will include:

• Fault finding and problem solving using Fishbone diagrams, 5 whys and other similar tools.
• Using the Company’s engineering change system.
• Improving, by design, the assembly methods, parts and fixtures to increase productivity yields.
• Producing engineering drawings to relevant drawing standards.
• Providing design and engineering support for existing product lines.
• Preparing BOMs and manufacturing routings for new products on the Company MRP ‘Sage’ system.
• Preparing for and participating in, design and other engineering reviews.
• Supporting Senior Design Engineers in the design, testing and analysis of existing and future projects.

Desired attributes:

• Ideally qualified to HND level (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering environment.
• 3D CAD SolidWorks or equivalent.
• Practical skills in testing prototypes and identifying causes of poor design/assembly performance.
• Strong IT skills – MS Office, Sage.
• Graduate calibre - non degree candidates with relevant experience will be considered.
• Knowledge and an understanding of manufacturing materials and processes (preferably plastic/rubbers).
• Quality background/knowledge would be an advantage.

As a member of the Engineering Team you should also be an excellent communicator and self starter who is able to plan ahead, prioritise tasks and co-ordinate with others
