Hunter Global are recruiting for a Mechanical Maintainer to be based at our client’s site in Newark, Nottinghamshire

This is a brilliant opportunity for a trained Engineer to join a well-established company in Newark on a permanent contract.

Duties & Responsibilities -
• Carry out mechanical installations, modifications and maintenance tasks (breakdown & preventative) within a computerised job control system, ensuring prompt response to breakdowns & effective fault diagnosis to minimise downtime.
• Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the statutory regulations ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental policies and to the required quality
• Communicate between and across all levels of the organisation to share knowledge, understanding and concern. Ensure job recording procedures are followed
• Must be willing to facilitate transfer of knowledge and skills to staff and apprentices, to ensure vital knowledge and skills are maintained to ensure business continuity
• Contribute to engineering/improvement actions required in the development and improvement of manufacturing facilities
• Improve customer service through team problem solving work and innovation
• Assist in the maintenance of site services such as compressed air/space heating etc.
• Carry out mechanical maintenance tasks within a computerised job control system. Including breakdown tasks and scheduled preventative maintenance tasks. Diagnose process faults and identify appropriate repairs. Identify required materials and spare parts. Repair to required standard. Maintain site services such as compressed air/space heating etc.
• Ensure own compliance with H.A.S.W policy and statutory regulations.
• Communicate with managers and team leaders to assess requirements and priorities. Maintain contact with colleagues for exchange of knowledge and resources.
• Recommend and carry out minor improvements to processes. Work to be carried out to agreed schedules and timescales.

Qualifications & Requirements -
• BTEC, ONC or City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical Engineering
• Recognised Apprenticeship

Skills & Knowledge -
• Good communication skills
• Problem solving skills
• Knowledge of health, safety and other company procedures
• Good mechanical comprehension skills.
• Good numerical & organisational skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.

Experience -
• Ideally a minimum of 5 years post apprenticeship experience.
• Electrical competencies an advantage.
• Must have machine tool experience on either grinding machines or turning machines or both.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Essential Requirements and Client Information –
• The Mechanical Maintenance sections install, maintain and refurbish all plant and equipment on the site. Mechanical maintenance fitters carry out the practical aspect of these responsibilities and additional tasks related to projects and improvement activities. Most production departments call upon the mechanical maintenance section for technical support in addition to the purely maintenance role.
• Reporting Relationships - Mechanical Maintenance Fitters report to the Maintenance Shift Co-ordinator and will be allocated tasks by the Co-Coordinator or Maintenance Manager.
• Contacts - Customers: - production section leaders and operators/setters at all levels on a daily or hourly basis to discuss priorities and work requests.
• Colleagues: - Other Maintainers, Maintenance Manager to discuss tasks and priorities.
• Problem Solving - The most difficult problems to solve are those involving determining the reason for a machine producing parts outside acceptable tolerance when no obvious fault exists.
• Decision making problem solving and fault finding in this role is autonomous, although specific approval is required on cost implications where non-stock parts expenditure is required.
• Planning and Organizing - In this role tasks are generally allocated, on night shift and overtime situations the maintainers issue their own tasks. The maintainer is responsible for ensuring immediate needs of parts and materials are made known to supervision if not available from stores. The maintainer is responsible for correct and timely completion of the job documentation and stores withdrawal procedures.
• Job Challenge - One demanding area of this job is to service all the various departments efficiently with limited manpower resources and to tight time schedules. It is very challenging to ensure the maximum availability of an extremely wide range of machinery of a wide age profile. The range and age profile of the plant continually tests our ability to maintain production capability and reliability
