The Calibration Technician (CMM)’s Responsibilities are to:

To work closely with all departments in measurement activities, including creating programmes for the CMM (Mitutoyo MCOSMOS v3.0) to ensure components are to the correct specification.
Plan, co-ordinate and report effectively on the workload through the section. Ensure all requests are logged and prioritised in accordance with production, NPI or department requirements.
Identify potential workload bottlenecks and present recommendations to the Quality Manager in order to maintain workload throughput.
Ensure the highest standard of measurement and reporting is maintained at all times.
Recommend improvement in measurement methods in order to eliminate error and duplication.
Ensure Quality reports are produced to a high standard and presented to the Quality Manager and service departments when required.
To keep up dated with new measurement techniques and equipment, and make recommendations to the Quality Manager where purchase of new equipment is required to improve the departments measuring techniques and processes.
Maintain the company’s calibration records and database of gauges/equipment used within the business, ensuring that the accuracy of gauges and equipment is traceable to a national standard.
Ensure the department and surrounding environment is clean and tidy promoting 5S activity.
Ensure compliance with all Company’s policies and procedures.


The Calibration Technician (CMM) will have:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent, Grade C and above, which should include Maths and English
Hold a City and Guilds technician certificate - 743 parts 1 and 2 or ONC / Quality certification 748 / MIQA
Formal training in programming and use of a CMM
To be fully conversant with complex engineering drawings covering aluminium castings, plastic mouldings, machined parts, gears, etc.
Preferably has knowledge of heat treatment and hardness testing
Must have comprehensive in-depth knowledge and experience of both CMM and conventional methods of component measurement
To be fully conversant with the requirements of BS 308
Has experience of controlling calibration systems
