Job title: Trainee Design Engineer (Refrigeration)

Based (region/office): Leicester

Brief details of position:

This is a full time permanent position reporting to the Commercial Technical Director and providing support and assistance to the wider design and project team.

The roles and responsibilities are to be developed over a structured training programme designed around the successful applicant.

Principal Responsibilities include:

• Carry out site surveys where required
• Generate and update the enquiry bank
• Attend customer scoping and design meetings where required
• Produce initial outline design/scope
• Produce Design File (electronic or hard copy) in line with ISO 9001 standard
• Produce detailed design, consisting of but not limited to: Cold room heat load calculation, cabinet heat load
• Calculations,, produce engineering sheets and pipework isometric drawings, equipment selections and pipe work sizing
• Produce supplier/sub-contractor enquiries for quotations
• Produce data for Design of Contracts project handover including: Equipment/supplier/sub-contractor procurement schedule, identify PED category of system and inform compliance team if CAT 4, calculate system refrigerant charge, produce high level program of works and high level phasing if required
• Raise Contract Approval Form to enable project to be booked on system
• Order any long lead time items to ensure project meets program
• Mark up drawings and issue to CAD department to produce
• Attend site at least once during project installation period, to carry out design review
• Assist PM with project shut downs
• Maintain excellent service levels at all times, ensuring a “first Class” service to all customers
• Take on projects as and when required and see them through to successful completion

Essential skills

• Confident and clear communication skills;
• Willingness to develop own skills and experience through learning interventions
• Good IT skills;
• Knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.

Preferred additional skills/Qualifications (not essential)

• Experience of working within the refrigeration industry;
• Awareness of QA procedures.
• Engineering software knowledge would be beneficial.
• A qualification from within the building services industry.
