LOCATION: Witham On The Hill, near Bourne, Lincolnshire

JOB TITLE: Caretaker

SALARY & BENEFITS: £18,750 per annum (£8.99per hour).

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours a week - (Apply online only) Monday-Friday.

THE COMPANY: Our client based in Witham on the Hill, Stamford is a happy and thriving boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 4 to 13 years. They are committed to an education both in and beyond the classroom, thereby enabling the academic, artistic and physical potential of each child to flourish. They currently have the opportunity for a Caretaker to join their team.

THE ROLE: The successful candidate will be a member of the Estates Team who have various specialities and, to a less formal degree, will work alongside colleagues in the Domestic Team and Grounds Team.

Together the aim of such support staff is to facilitate the needs of teaching staff and pupils to ensure the better performance of the School.

He/she will oversee day-to-day caretaking duties, perform minor maintenance tasks, and to contribute to the smooth running of the School.

The successful candidate will not be uncomfortable with the aims and ethos of either boarding schools or private education, and, through their own conduct, will be able to contribute to the environment of high standards, good manners, and excellent service at which the School aims.

Specific duties of a Caretaker to include:-

• To set-up for School activities and events as needed (e.g. Match Teas, Parent Consultation Evenings, presentations, hospitality events, Teacher Training etc.)

Day-to-day caretaking duties:

• Assist with reactive maintenance works as needed (e.g. basic repairs etc.);
• Clearing bins, bin trolleys, recycling around the Estate and a weekly litter pick;
• Receipt and distribution of deliveries and supplies;
• Assist with reactive janitorial works (e.g. spillages, leaks, blockages etc.);
• Assist with periodic deep-clean tasks (e.g. carpet cleaning, rearrangement of rooms etc.)
• Assist with regular external cleaning works (e.g. gutter cleaning, flat-roof cleaning)
• Liaise with boarding staff on delivery/collection of laundry from outside source.

• Assist with those planned building and redevelopment projects managed in-house,
• To help the School respond to adverse events or conditions (e.g. bad weather).
• Weekly testing of the fire alarm.
• Supervision of Heating Oil.
• Periodic (e.g. weekly, monthly and termly as applicable) checks of critical equipment (e.g. oil tanks, emergency lighting, security and defibrillator).
• Attendance at weekly Estates Team meeting with Estates Team Supervisor.
• To attend meetings and training courses as requested.
• To observe the School’s Health & Safety Policy at all times.
• To perform other such duties as may be reasonably requested by the Bursar.

School vehicles:

• To undertake occasional driving duties in School vehicles, which will require a clean driving licence and a willingness to drive minibuses;
• To check and clean School vehicles as directed by the Estates Team Supervisor and maintain records for all checks;
• To refuel School vehicles as required.

Knowledge, skills and experience required for the Caretaker position based in Witham on the Hill, near Bourne, Lincolnshire

Essential

• Ability to work effectively as part of a very happy Estates team that enjoys good camaraderie.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work under own initiative and to meet deadlines.
• Physical capability to meet the demands of the role, which will include lifting, carrying and manual work. The School will pay for relevant courses (e.g. Manual Handling, Working at Height etc.).
• A pro-active and flexible approach to role. Hours can occasionally vary depending on events in the School Calendar.
• Clean driving licence.
• Good time-keeping.
• Positive approach to learning in the role and identifying own training needs as appropriate; the School would be willing to support learning as required on a mutually agreeable basis.
• Positive references, demonstrating loyalty and commitment.

Desirable

• Expertise in one particular field (e.g. carpentry, electrical, plumbing etc.).
• The ability to contribute to gardening duties during busy seasonal periods would be especially advantageous.
• Experience in maintenance tasks.
• Experience in vehicle driving or vehicle maintenance.
