Task Background:

A role is required for someone with experience in Artificial Intelligence techniques for a relevant industry such as the computer games industry, e.g. blended learning and rules based learning, to bring their knowledge and expertise to consider military applications. Examples could include using AI to replace a human commander for military forces in a wargame, or for AI in combat modelling.

This would involve keeping up-to-date with state of the art research, developing knowledge/techniques and contributing new ideas to our research.

Main Duties:

• Work with Industry and Academia by partnering with them to ensure that the tasks we place remain on track, are of high quality and receive the benefit of internal expertise.

• Autonomously guide and direct the work of others, through technical leadership, in order to ensure delivery of high impact science and technology.

• Provide rigorous review of process and outputs to ensure the robustness of the research delivered to customers.

• Inform across Government, including potentially briefing senior officials to ensure robust decision making within government.

• Develop a sustainable model for capability growth in the area of AI and games technologies, expanding both our in-house knowledge and experience and awareness of external expertise.

Identify relevant research outside Dstl that we can adapt and exploit in order to maximise impact for MoD

Knowledge of AI and learning algorithms for a relevant field such as computer games and simulations/modelling

Programming in Python, JAVA or other relevant language

Commitment to CPD and continuous learning and keeping up to date with advances in relevant fields

Experience of working collaboratively

Good communication skills

Creativity and an inquisitive mind

Numerical, technical or sociotechnical degree with working knowledge of mathematics and statistics e.g. data science-related, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering or a related multidisciplinary technical / sociotechnical subject. Those with equivalent experience are also actively encouraged to apply.

Demonstrated Continous Professional Development in relevant areas
