Location: Manchester, Lancashire
Salary: Competitive, DOE
Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, although the nature of the role will demand a level of working over and above this, plus time outside of normal business hours (this is a 24x7 operation)

As part of its ongoing development Gamma is increasingly delivering converged voice and data network solutions through its Channel and Direct business units.

The network design scope within the Gamma Operations’ organisation has expanded over recent months and we are now looking for candidates to manage a dedicated team of Customer & Architect Engineers.

The role will involve a high level of interaction at a consultancy level, supporting the customer design engineers with our internal engineering and pre-sales teams as well as Gamma customers and channel partners. The role will be high profile, overseeing both the design and successful implementation of a broad range of LAN/WAN and Data Centre solutions. Ideally, candidates will be qualified to CCNP/CCDP.

We are looking for candidates who have long-term experience in network engineering, experience of IP engineering design in an enterprise environment and leadership within a engineering/design environment. You will need to excel in leadership and feel comfortable dealing with both senior management and customers.

Key Duties:
• To provide leadership and guidance, as well as technical expertise, to our engineering team which is accountable for the network/architecture design hosting customers MPLS solutions. You will be expected to actively participate in design work, integration meetings and the pre-sales teams.
• Working with the Networks Director you will contribute to developing the ongoing strategy for our networks solutions across both our Channel and Direct business units. You will be expected to understand not only the business requirements but also industry best practice and ongoing development.
• You will need to work closely with the internal Gamma engineering programme teams to ensure that network-related projects are efficiently and seamlessly transitioned into operations, therefore developing an effective working relationship with our Gamma engineers is vital.
• To ensure the smooth deployment of the Network integration programme, again working closely with the internal Gamma engineering programme team to ensure a successful and timely delivery.
• To support the Customer Engineers when working with the Gamma Pre-sales teams; understanding of requirements and design of solutions, supporting non-standard requests and making recommendations when a customer requirement is not a best fit for a standard service.
• Ensure that bespoke customer requirements are reviewed and developed in such a way to maintain the integrity and stability of the network.
• Responsible for network security and business continuity including the support of internal governance meeting as well as external third party pen testing and applicable audits
• Responsible for and overseeing network capacity planning and change management

Your experience:
• Experience of concurrently managing multiple projects or programmes of differing sizes and complexity to meet business and customer expectations and deliver results
• Experience of managing teams; providing guidance for less experienced members of staff and also developmental opportunities across the whole team.
• Proven ability to build relationships and influence at all levels internally and externally
• Strong cross-functional working capabilities with stakeholder management a key factor
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to understand the impact of actions and programmes of work across the immediate team and the wider business
• Be assured and confident when challenging senior stakeholders if required, particularly around business strategy and prioritisation
• Excellent prioritisation and coordination skills with the ability to work to multiple deadlines and to multiple stakeholders
• Ability to continuously look for ways to improve and innovate across Engineering
• Comfortable working at a rapid pace with changing priorities, with the ability to digest and communicate changes out to a wider audience
• Self-motivated, adaptable and above all, a willingness to go above and beyond to deliver individual and team outcomes

Technical skills:
• Vendor-specific experience in Cisco, Redback, Juniper, Checkpoint, Nortel, Watchguard, Palo Alto…etc
• In-depth understanding of routing protocols, internal and external, RIP, EIGRP,OSPF, BGP.
• Familiar with common Internet protocols, e.g. SNMP, SMTP, ICMP
• Advanced knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, Access Control Lists (ACLs)
• Detailed knowledge of core network routers and infrastructure
• Hands-on experience of IP / VOIP network design, implementation and troubleshooting
• Hands on Cisco exposure backed up with a Cisco CCNP / CCDP or CCIE
• Detailed understanding of Layer2 and Layer3 VPNs from the Core to Customer Edge (P / PE / CE) - VRFs (Cisco) and Contexts (Redback)
• A strong background in configuring firewalls for both Corporate and ISP services, to include: VPN Client and Site2Site IPSec Policies, Advanced DPI Policies for Internet Traffic and Centralised / Virtual Firewall Policies for VPN Customers.
• Detailed understanding of all aspects of QOS (Traffic Shaping / Policing / Scheduling / Congestion Management and Avoidance). Specific experience with deploying QOS in a voice and / or converged environment would be advantageous (using both IPv4 and IPv6).
• Good technical knowledge and ideally an understanding of network technology
