Job title: Tutor – Functional Skills and GCSE English and Maths.

Reports to: Head of Education

Team Player
The Tutor needs to work as part of a team and is expected to work effectively and collaboratively with all colleagues in delivering learning support to the students.

KPIs:

Demonstrates enthusiasm for Cambian, the team and its work
Demonstrates commitment and reliability to team and college through good attendance and time keeping
Takes responsibility for own performance and development, honestly assessing themselves and where they need to improve
Is committed to improving the team`s performance through contributing good ideas and solutions and supporting colleagues to succeed
Actively engages with feedback, support and coaching given on own performance
Develops positive working relationships within the team and with all other stakeholders

Measures: observations, honest conversations, contribution in team meetings, atmosphere of the service, evidence of team working, time-keeping and sickness record, development record, team communication records, continuous improvement plans, CPD logs.



Curriculum Deliverer
The Tutor is accountable for ensuring that the Curriculum is effectively delivered to their students.

KPIs:

Delivers high quality teaching and learning processes to underpin high levels of achievement for learners within the pathway curriculum
Undertakes teaching commitments appropriate to role
Supports and develop teaching practice as part of tutor groups
Deals with safeguarding issues appropriately
Ensure equality of treatment for all students, identifying where the curriculum needs to adapted for a group or individual
Ensure equality of processes in all areas of operation
Keeps abreast of teaching developments and initiatives relating to their teaching specialisms
Undertakes effective assessment processes in specific curriculum areas

Measures: Achievement of relevant KPIs, accountability meetings, 360 feedback from peers/staff, feedback from students, families and other stakeholders, results of regulatory inspections/reviews



Recorder and reporter
The Tutor has an active role in delivering effective learning support and should demonstrate this through timely and effective recording and reporting. This involves contributing to individual plans and paperwork used to support our work with students in a way that is fair and respectful. It also helps the college to show that it is compliant with regulatory, contractual and internal requirements.



KPI`s:
Demonstrates effective understanding and application of all recording and reporting requirements linked to their role in supporting students and working safely
Records and reports information about the delivery of learning support, promptly and clearly, ensuring any issues are escalated properly
Demonstrates ability to work within agreed service delivery frameworks and comply with agreed recording processes
Engages and involves people in the development of plans and records that relate to them
Communicates about the delivery of learning support and the students with dignity, respect and responsibility

Measures: Communication book and other service records/systems, individual support plans, evidence of collaborative working with people we support, issues/concerns are promptly escalated to right people.



Lifestyle enabler
The Tutor has an important role to play in supporting students to achieve the things that matter to them. This means helping students to make choices and decisions and exploring and accessing opportunities that help them learn and develop a lifestyle that is meaningful and rewarding.


KPIs:
Demonstrates an interest and enthusiasm for working with a diverse range of students
Supports students to identify their own needs and wishes rather than treating everyone the same
Demonstrates an active and effective approach to securing options with and for students , understanding both the potential and limitations of Cambians role and seeking advice where appropriate
Works effectively with others in the team or wider Cambian to support successful progression and achievement for people

Measures: Feedback from students, feedback from team members, individual support plans, evidence of team working, asking the right questions about supporting someone


Safe Practitioner
The ability to work safely and in compliance with regulatory, contractual and internal requirements is essential to the Tutor role, so that the students we support can feel safe and confident when at College.

KPIs:
Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to safe working practices to promote personal safety and safety of others
Understands and follows agreed ways of working and procedures
Demonstrates empathy with and understanding of working with vulnerable people and application of risk management processes
Highlights and reports any practice issues or concerns through line management channels to secure support and improvement
Demonstrates application of learning around safety issues within everyday work

Measures: health & safety records, notification reports, MENAC forms, escalation of issues, training records, adherence to process

Knowledge, Experience and Skills
Knowledge of:

Recent and relevant experience of the education and care service delivery requirements of people with a learning disability
Relevant knowledge of the specifications and requirements of functional skills and GCSE English and Maths.
Working knowledge of the education and care operational contexts that influence service delivery
Appreciation of the Ofsted and Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection regimes
Teaching experience with learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities



Experience of:
Delivering functional skills at level 1 and 2 and GCSE English and Maths.
Delivering teaching activity within a 24 hour (extended) curriculum model
Working with learners with challenging behaviour
Teaching a person centred curriculum in new and innovative ways

Skills:

Ability to make sound decisions based on information and evidence

Qualifications:
English and Maths level 3/A level or other appropriate qualification to deliver GCSE English and Maths.
Teaching qualification at level appropriate to the role

Ability to work flexible hours in accordance with the needs of the post
Ability to travel regionally as required with access to their own transport
