The role of Head of Product Development is a full time role, located in SCC’s Cole Valley 2 location, reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer.

The role will lead all new service product developments initiated by the Head of Innovation and the CIO within the Innovation Group. Develop those offerings through commercial and technical due diligence, working closely with SCC and 3rd party operational staff to ensure the product viability. To ultimately bring those products into service and manage the full life cycle thereafter, further development and retirement of those services from the product catalogue.

The role will be required to lead the team that is responsible for the planning and management of the innovation group’s product development activities. The team’s responsibilities will involve the development of these new services, using capabilities within the broader Innovation team, as well as liaising with senior management, operational, sales and marketing functions to ensure that the ultimate service delivery for all new services is successful.

This is an innovative leadership role that requires a mix of business skills to include managerial, product development and commercial prowess, coupled with a flexible ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to develop and progress a business case relating to product delivery to fruition and ultimately working with the stakeholders, develop that product to be profitable for SCC.

Main Duties

• To manage an existing product development function in the service innovation group within SCC Services
• To build a fully functional Product Management capability with supporting processes and governance, over and above the current product development capability, with sign off from dependent stakeholders
• To build, manage and maintain a suitably sized team to create a dynamic productive services pipeline, whilst ensuring budgets and timeframes are managed fully
• To constantly review existing catalogue products for functional currency and enhanced capability or potential replacement
• Own and deliver the full product lifecycle a mixture of cloud and native managed services; including strategy, design and acceptance into service, with full lifecycle management through to service end of life and retirement skills
• Building excellent relationships with all of our customers and internal stakeholders in order to clearly understand and represent their business needs for each product area, as well as evangelising the benefits and successes of the product suite
• Working closely with our own and 3rd party engineers and development staff to ensure products are built and delivered to the highest quality, with an excellent understanding of commercial pressures

• Driving product solutions with regards to goals, business case, design, service wrap and user interface
• A comprehensive understanding of existing and new propositions through both commercial and analytical reasoning, reporting on ROI over agreed timeframes
• Develop the strategy for [pricing], messaging, packaging, promotion and selling of products
• Work closely with marketing teams and sales to develop go-to-market programmes, campaigns and activities
• Train and enable sales and customer support teams on new products and go-to-market initiatives
• Create and/or work closely with marketing content team to core product content for products and go-to-market initiatives
• Serve as an evangelist for products through thought leadership and blogging, social media, and speaking
• Keep the company up-to-date with market trends and competition, and keep us several steps ahead of the competition at all times.
• Report on a regular basis the team’s activities to the board and wider senior management team
• Manage the team that shapes, develops and delivers services within a portfolio of managed Cloud services.
• Liaise with all dependent department heads (e.g. Head of ServiceNow, Head of Innovation, Director of Services, Marketing Director, Sales Directors etc.) to ensure sales and marketing success for the new services

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Leadership experience with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• An analytical approach, used in a wide range of responsibilities, from customer development, to product adoption, to sales process
• Ability to lead and communicate cross-functionally with engineering and other departments
• Have extensive product management experience from a Cloud or managed services business
• Have previously had full product roadmap ownership, from inception to delivery and launch, for a number of products, including end of lifecycle management
• Ideally have worked on PaaS or SaaS product, and delivered new, innovative services
• Have experience of line management, including mentoring and development
• Be educated to degree level, or an equivalent
• Have worked extensively within the managed services industry
• Be a self-starter with a good appreciation of business and commercial values
• Have excellent communication skills and be able to transmit this across various stakeholders
