Acorn Accountancy and Finance has been retained by one of our clients, a manufacturing company which is part of a successful global business, to recruit a key member for their accounts team. Based in Newport, the company turnover is c£15 million, and is run by a friendly management team.

Reporting to the Business Controller, the key responsibility of this role is to provide management information which will allow the business to maximise its profitability with respect to variations to budget, costings and inventory.

Duties include:

*Implementing a costing system, which includes accurate margin analysis by product and customer
*Analysis of project spend vs budget
*Preparation of management reports and variance profit analysis reports
*Assist MD with data preparation & industry research for supplier negotiations
*Participate & report on cost improvement strategy
*Undertake annual stock takes, introduce P.I
*Stock reconciliation
*Responsibility for maintenance of Fixed Asset register
*Assist with implementation of new ERP system, including specification and subsequent training
*SQL reporting and development
*Credit management, including reviewing credit limits and collection of bad debt, cash flow forecasting
*Statutory accounting, including VAT, Corporation Tax, intrastat and PAYE, and liaison with auditors; reporting statistics to the ONS
*Reconciliation of bank accounts
*Dealing with loan repayments / inter-company accounts
*Close Month End/Year End routine
*Involvement with Payroll and Purchase Ledger
*Monthly accounts including preparation of journals, accounts to trial balance, reporting financials to group and reviewing control accounts

Skills and experience required:

You will have demonstrable experience in accountancy, having worked within a manufacturing or assembly related environment. Experience of costings / cost analysis / project costing is key. This is a newly created position, and therefore you will be keen to put your own energy and enthusiasm in to the implementation of systems and processes in order to directly influence and add value to the company's operations.

It is essential that you can demonstrate an advanced level of competency with Excel, and also have experience of working with ERP systems such as SAP, SAGE or Epicor. A clean driving licence is essential, as a small amount of travel to other sites is envisaged.

The company is long established and is keen to move towards a family friendly environment, hence hours of work are flexible (a 37.5 hour week based around core hours). Part-time hours may be available for the 'right' candidate, and they are also happy to support personal development through study support where appropriate.
