Elmdene International Ltd is a leading manufacturer of Fire & Security ancillary equipment based in Portsmouth Hampshire. It has been established for over 50 years and has an exciting roadmap of future product developments.

We are now looking for an experienced Engineering Project Manager to lead these exciting product developments. This person will demonstrate an energy and enthusiasm to deliver these projects and have the ability to communicate effectively throughout the company to ensure all departments are aligned to ensure we meet the required time-scales.

General Objective of Position

Day to day management of engineering development projects and team tasks to ensure new product designs and enhancements are delivered on time to an agreed specification and cost.

General Responsibilities

  • Engineering Development Project management
  • Day to day line management of engineering team and team task priorities
  • Management of Engineering processes in line with COP 40

General Tasks

  • To ensure all Engineering development projects are managed in line with Microsoft Project (or equivalent tool) to control tasks and resources and achieve an accurate critical path
  • To assess and alert MGT team of any project risks (time, technical or cost) in a timely manner
  • To lead regular multifunction project reviews and ensure project tollgates are signed off at the required stage of a project and the whole development lifecycle is considered to the product launch date
  • To ensure any issues are resolved in a timely manner so as not to delay the project
  • To ensure team, task and project priorities are upheld and communicated effectively to the management and development team alike.
  • To prevent and communicate any distractions to the NPD schedule to the mgt team BEFORE implementation
  • To manage team priorities and schedule NOISE lists as appropriate including completion of CAT 1&2 ECRs or customer complaints
  • To ensure critical project documents are maintained in directory, namely Design specification, Design validation results, Risk assessments, toll gate sign offs and project review actions ready for any internal or external audit
  • To ensure all Engineering processes are clearly defined, communicated and implemented in line with the documented procedures
  • Review and propose improvements to any engineering processes to improve efficiency
  • To communicate with 3rd party approval houses to ensure deliverables for project are understood, reviewed and achieved
  • To communicate with suppliers where necessary in development process (Worldwide)
  • Where necessary, utilise and manage Far East Technical manager as Engineering resource for any NPD involving Far East suppliers in relation to project management
  • To act as primary engineering lead for internal and external audits
  • To people manage department in line with company policy, procedures and company handbook
  • To ensure appropriate H&S requirements are upheld in the department
  • Any other task as required by the company

Essential skills/experience

  • Prince 2 project management or equivalent qualification
  • At least 3 years’ experience running engineering projects using appropriate software tools (ideally Microsoft project)
  • Experience of managing engineering teams
  • Experience in leading design project within an electro mechanical company
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills

Desirable skills/experience

  • Organised and acute attention to detail
  • Proactive attitude
  • Experience in project managing software developments
  • Mechanical design/CAD experience
  • Degree qualified
  • Experience of being NPD engineer (mec/s/w/elec etc)
