The Role

The Royal British Legion is looking for an experienced Public Relations Manager to join its media team and help promote the charity’s work supporting all those serving in the British Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.

The work of the Legion’s PR team is wide ranging and includes dealing with large scale issues such as FIFA’s ban on players wearing poppies, managing relationships our high profile supporters, working on major campaigns such as the Poppy Appeal, co-ordinating the media presence at national commemorative events and telling the stories of people we help through the press.

Reporting directly to the Head of PR, you will be responsible for managing and developing four National PR Officers in the delivery of planned campaigns. You will coordinate the work of the national team to deliver communications activity in line with strategic aims and objectives.

The National PR Manager will be required to coach, and inspire the national PR team, set their priorities and develop their skills in effective planning, campaigning and creative executions. The role requires an experienced line manager who is capable of handling the operations of a press office including a large volume of reactive media enquiries.

The successful candidate will have a degree level qualification or equivalent practical experience, and proven experience of media relations, public relations or journalism within a high-profile national organisation. You will have experience in managing a team, devising, formulating and implementing work plans and communication strategies, and will have worked with journalists at the national level in securing significant media coverage.
